Description

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Nova Scotia Health (NSH) is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Security to lead the continuous development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive security strategies across all healthcare facilities within Nova Scotia Health. Reporting to the VP of Corporate Service, this leadership role will provide transformational and strategic direction to safeguard NSH’s people, patients, assets, and reputation while ensuring a secure and welcoming environment.
The Director of Security will act as a key advisor and subject matter expert on security matters, working collaboratively with executive leadership, clinical teams, external stakeholders, and government partners to maintain the highest standards of safety and security within the healthcare sector.

Responsibilities

The Director of Security will be responsible for developing and executing a province-wide security strategy that aligns with NSH’s mission, vision, and values. This involves leading the development of security policies and best practices to address current and emerging threats, ensuring compliance with national and provincial regulations, and fostering a security-conscious culture. They will provide strategic oversight for facility security operations across all healthcare sites, leading a team of security professionals to ensure 24/7 coverage and response. The role also includes monitoring key performance indicators and conducting risk assessments to implement mitigation strategies.
Incident management is a critical aspect of the role, where the Director will oversee security response plans, lead investigations into security breaches, and coordinate with law enforcement during emergencies. The Director will collaborate with clinical, administrative, and operational leaders to address security needs and serve as the primary point of contact for security-related matters with external partners and provincial government agencies. They will also lead regular communication and training initiatives to educate staff on security protocols.
The Director will identify and implement advanced security technologies, staying abreast of emerging innovations to enhance operational effectiveness. Budget and resource management are essential, including developing the security services budget, negotiating contracts with third-party vendors, and finding opportunities for cost-saving initiatives while maintaining high-quality services.
