Description
Duties: Lead and optimize the sow phase of our operations, overseeing a substantial herd of 140,000. Cultivate a culture of excellence, enhancing sow livability, driving continuous improvement, reducing, and controlling costs, leveraging data and analytics for informed decisions, and maintaining rigorous biosecurity measures. Spearhead approaches to increase throughput and decrease sow mortality rates, ensuring sustainable and efficient sow phase operations. Serve as a leader giving direction to production managers who then, in return, lead farm supervisors, by handling questions, interpreting and presenting data, and helping resolve work-related problems. Audit farms on a weekly basis to ensure employees are complying with all standard operating procedures and facilities are being properly maintained. Advise production managers on meeting production and cost targets as well as completing and submitting production reports in a timely manner. Create and manage employee work schedules and maintain accurate records of personnel paperwork, including performance reviews and feedback provided to employees.   Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science or Husbandry, Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, or related field plus five years of experience in sow farm management and leadership. Must have experience with commercial swine production including all processes from gestation through farrowing. Must have experience reviewing data, working with graphics and numbers to identify problems and make decisions on a sow farm. Must have experience making future projections based on data. Must have experience following detailed standard operating procedures. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and sometimes push/and or move up to 300 pounds.  Must have good written and oral communication skills in English. Daily travel required to local farm sites.
