Description Job Title: Director of Strength & Performance Classi?cation: Full-time, 12 months, Exempt Position. Requires travel, plus evening and weekend work. Reports to: Senior Athletic Administrator for Strategic Development The Director of Strength & Performance leads the school’s comprehensive strength, conditioning, and human performance programs, guiding students to develop physically, mentally, and in character. This role supports the mission of Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School by promoting wellness, athletic development, and personal growth within a Christ-centered environment. The Director designs, implements, and oversees safe, sport-specific, and developmentally appropriate training for students in grades nine through twelve. Responsibilities include teaching Strength and Conditioning classes during the school day, leading year-round training, supporting curriculum development, and coordinating the high school strength program. The Director works closely with school leadership, coaches, and faculty to align programming with school priorities and to create individualized development plans that support the growth of every student-athlete. This position plays a vital role in enhancing the student experience and fostering a culture rooted in development, integrity, and high-level performance. Faith and Mission Serve as a daily witness to Christ through professional conduct, leadership, and a vibrant faith life. Support the school's Catholic mission, values, and educational philosophy. Instruction and Program Leadership Serve as a grade-level advisor. Instruct and motivate students in Strength and Conditioning classes, emphasizing technique, performance, and personal growth within the school day curriculum. Develop, implement, and manage year-round strength and performance programs for all student-athletes, including potential morning and after-school workouts. Develop individualized and team-based training programs focused on strength, speed, agility, mobility, and injury prevention. Deliver age-appropriate programming that supports the development of both high school and middle school student-athletes. Design and lead summer workout programs for both divisions. Conduct baseline performance testing and maintain long-term performance data for student-athletes. Train and supervise students in proper lifting techniques and movement patterns. Assist the athletic training staff in rehabilitation and injury prevention as needed. Demonstrate exercises and safely move and manage training equipment as needed. Based on qualifications and experience, the selected candidate may be considered for the additional role of Physical Education Chair, overseeing the full PE department and directing the grades six through twelve Physical Education and Strength and Conditioning programs. Collaboration and Communication Work closely with the Senior Athletic Administrator for Strategic Development, High School Principal, Athletic Directors, and coaches to align programming with school priorities. Partner with coaches to reinforce sport-specific performance concepts and unified training standards. Communicate clearly with students, families, and staff regarding expectations, program goals, and safety practices. Support preseason coaches' training and department in-service programs as needed. Support school-wide initiatives related to wellness, health education, and student development. Facility Management and Safety Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient strength and conditioning environment. Oversee equipment inspections, maintenance, and replacement schedules. Implement and enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures for all training sessions. Supervise active training environments with noise, movement, and multi-group instruction. Coordinate with athletic training staff to support injury prevention and rehabilitation programs. Operations and Program Development Coordinate training schedules with coaches to maximize participation and performance outcomes. Track and report performance data, student progress, and program outcomes. Assist with staffing needs, budgeting, and equipment purchasing in collaboration with athletic leadership. Requirements NSCA, CSCS, or USA Weightlifting certification. Proven experience in strength and conditioning, athletic performance, or a related field. Ability to design and implement individualized, group, and team-based training programs. Strong supervision skills for both individual and team workout sessions. Excellent instruction of proper strength and conditioning techniques. Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills. Ability to ensure safe operations and professional supervision of all training spaces. Commitment to promoting growth, discipline, integrity, and excellence in student-athletes. Preferred Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field. Previous experience in a school-based setting. Classroom teaching experience or support of student learning. Familiarity with long-term athletic development models and sports performance technology.
