POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Services, the Director of Student Development provides leadership for co-curricular programs that foster student engagement, spiritual formation, service, and vocational development at The King’s University. This role oversees chapel services, student mentoring, ministry and outreach teams, leadership development, and student activities. The Director plays a critical role in enhancing student experience, retention, and connection to the TKU community. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Master’s degree in Ministry, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Organizational Leadership, or a related field required; preference given to candidates with a theological or ministry-focused background.

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in student affairs leadership.
• Demonstrated program development and management success.

Competencies:

• Fluency in student development best practices within a Christian higher education context.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
• A proven track record of creating a climate of openness and mutual respect.
• Clear and concise communication skills, both orally and in writing.
• Strong technical skills that include experience working with student management systems and software.
• The ability to interpret data and analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, forecast the implications of proposed actions, and adapt as needed to accomplish goals.
• The ability to develop, interpret, and effectively apply University policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Position Specific Responsibilities

• Serve as a collaborative team member for the execution of the chapel program of the University, in conjunction with the ideals and initiatives of the University and the President.
• Recruit, train, and support student leaders involved in chapel, peer mentoring, outreach, and campus engagement initiatives.
• Lead planning and execution of outreach opportunities, including local service and global missions, in partnership with ministry organizations and collaborating efforts with the Enrollment Partnerships office within Admissions.
• Oversee student ministry teams, managing scheduling, training, and external partnerships in collaboration with other university departments like Admissions and Advancement.
• Develop and implement vocational discernment initiatives, including workshops, mentoring, and oversight in partnership with the student success center.
• Assess student development initiatives through regular evaluation and feedback to ensure continuous improvement and relevance.
• Provide relational and pastoral support to students, encouraging spiritual and emotional well-being.
• Collaborate across departments, particularly Admissions, student facing services, and Student Success, to align student development efforts with broader institutional goals.
• Manage department budgets and resources, ensuring effective and strategic use of funds to support student development initiatives.
• Coordinate leadership development training for students in ministry, outreach, and co-curricular roles.
• Interview and lead the development of the Student Leadership Council year over year.
• Work alongside Academics to present co curriculur (internships & practicums) to students for immediate placement opportunities.
• Support student conduct processes, partnering with relevant staff to uphold community standards and educate students on behavioral expectations.
• Contribute oversight on student engagement and spiritual formation.
• Serve as Title IX Coordinator (training provided).
