ABOUT BERLITZ DUBLIN:

Berlitz Dublin, a renowned language school established in 1878, is seeking dedicated and experienced professionals to join our academic management team.
We have opportunities available for the roles of Director of Studies (DOS) and Assistant Director of Studies (ADOS). Both roles involve ensuring that all academic activities within the centre are carried out to the highest standard.

JOB OVERVIEW:

Berlitz Dublin a renowned language school, is seeking a Director of Studies (DOS) who will support the overall mission of ensuring that all academic activities within Berlitz Dublin and ensure that the projects are carried out to the highest standards.
Specifically, the DOS will be responsible for ensuring that day-to-day teaching activities are operating effectively and efficiently. This role is to ensure that programmes are delivered to the best possible standards in line with all regulatory requirements and Berlitz standards.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years academic management experience.
  • DELTA or working towards a DELTA qualification.
  • Able to lead and motivate a team of staff ESSENTIAL.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • First degree or equivalent.
  • Teaching experience. (Preferred)
  • DELTA, Trinity Diploma in TESOL or equivalent.
  • Previous senior teacher or ADOS experience ESSENTIAL.

Responsibilities

KEY DUTIES:

  • Oversee production of and monitoring of group and individual course programmes.
  • Co-ordinate all academic administration, assessment, and placement of new students.
  • Ensure all documentation meets ACELS and other accreditation body requirements.
  • Conduct teacher observations, appraisals, monitoring, and feedback alongside the ADOS.
  • Organise all student Individual Learning Plans and student tutorials, alongside the ADOS.
  • Organise all customer experience feedback as necessary, alongside the ADOS.
  • Co-ordinate overall academic management.
  • Write progress reports.
  • Teacher training and induction of new teachers, alongside the ADOS.
  • Conducting teaching workshops.
  • Co-ordinate general teacher training needs.
  • Co-ordinate all teacher recruitment activities.
  • Recommending any changes to processes, materials or teaching personnel to Managing Director when required.
  • A teaching schedule as agreed with, and in accordance with organisational needs as agreed with the Managing Director.
  • Garda Vetting compliance management and reporting, alongside the ADOS.

OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Conduct induction and placement testing for new students.
  • Carry out student tutorials.
  • Authorise the teachers’ weekly schedule.
  • Approve the purchase of new academic materials.
  • Support the professional development of teachers.
  • Oversee the writing of progress reports.
  • Supervise evaluation processes.
  • Teach according to the assigned schedule.
  • Arrange cover teaching when necessary.

WELFARE DUTIES:

  • To advise students on coping with and managing unfamiliar situations.
  • To coordinate and respond to student welfare concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • To communicate any significant welfare issues to the Managing Director.
  • To liaise with the Managing Director to find appropriate and effective solutions to students’ problems.

KEY DUTIES:

  • To support the DOS in ensuring that all teaching, processes, and paperwork always meet ACELS standards.
  • To help lead the team of EFL teachers by providing guidance and support, under the direction of the DOS, to ensure a high standard of teaching.
  • To contribute to creating and maintaining a positive atmosphere among EFL staff and students within the EFL programme.
  • To assist in assessing students’ language levels and placing them into appropriate classes.
  • To help oversee student discipline during lesson times.
  • To handle queries or concerns from staff, students, or agents regarding teaching, escalating where needed to the DOS.
  • To contribute to weekly report writing duties.
  • To teach an agreed teaching schedule in line with business needs.
  • To act as a cover teacher when required.
  • To help coordinate and actively participate in regular staff meetings.

ASSIST WITH THE OTHER DUTIES:
