DESCRIPTION:

ILSC is one of Australia’s most recognised language schools, and the Director of Studies ILSC Sydney is a role that is key to leading our academic operations at our Sydney CBD campus.
ILSC is known for the quality, rigour and variety of programs that are tailored to best meet international student needs and interests. The Director of Studies (DoS) is a key leadership role, and is responsible for ensuring the ILSC mission of a transformative learning environment for students and staff at ILSC is consistently upheld. The DoS leads the local ILSC campus Academic Team, overseeing all aspects of academic programs and academic operations.
The DoS is also a key member of the National ELICOS Academic Management Team, reporting to the National Academic Director ELICOS & Pathways, and working closely with other ILSC DoSs, the ILSC Admin Team, and the ILSC Global Curriculum Team, ensuring the continued alignment, development and overall success of the ILSC campus, ILSC Australia and ILSC Education Group as a whole.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Recognised Bachelor degree
  • Trinity DipTESOL, Cambridge DELTA, or MA TESOL (or equivalent)
  • Minimum three years’ leadership and management experience in quality English language institutions
  • Excellent understanding of TESOL methodology, programs, curriculum design, and assessment practices
  • Experience recruiting new teachers and managing complex timetables and academic calendars
  • Demonstrated focus on continuous personal and team professional development
  • Strong connections and relationships with various industry stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in leading compliance audits (desirable)
  • Experience in teacher training (desirable)
  • IDLTM (desirable)
Responsibilities

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Overall academic leadership, ensuring outstanding quality of learning and teaching:
  • regularly reviewing learning and teaching outcomes, ensuring solid student progression and an excellent student experience
  • promoting continual professional development and growth, and empowering and encouraging staff to realise their full potential
  • continually reviewing and improving processes and procedures, including embracing innovation from both internal and external sources
  • Overall management of the academic team, ensuring a collaborative, supportive and professional ethos:
  • modelling and encouraging clear, regular, and multi-directional communication
  • upholding, managing, and inspiring optimum staff performance and facilitating both collaborative and autonomous continuous professional development
  • embracing diversity and staff contributions, and nurturing and celebrating a respectful and collegiate culture
  • Ensuring academic delivery and resourcing meet and exceed customer expectations within budgetary constraints
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance on a local level, with solid understanding of regulatory and workplace requirements (including: ESOS Act, National Code 2018, ELICOS Standards 2018, NEAS, NES, Post-Secondary Award 2020, WHS, state-based Working with Children employer responsibilities)
  • Keeping up to date with industry trends and sector shifts and innovations
  • Actively participating in the broader ELT profession and SIGs, representing and promoting ILSC
  • Collaborating with ILSC Group’s national and global leadership teams:
  • development of academic strategy and procedures and contribution to global curriculum and assessment renewal
  • development of and contribution to teacher recruitment process
  • development and advancement of local and national initiatives that support and cultivate ILSC’s core values and strategic goals
  • With the National Academic Director and other management team members, developing and delivering on the college’s directions, plans and KPIs
  • With the National Director Campus Operations, and the National Director Student Services, ensuring the smooth running of campus operations and ensuring quality and timely maintenance of learning & teaching spaces
  • Liaising with and supporting other departments within ILSC Education Group, in mutual support of the school functions, including, but not exclusively, advisors, registrars, accommodation and sales
  • Other related duties or projects as determined by the National Academic Director
