Role Summary: The Director – People & Culture plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering Messe Muenchen India’s people agenda. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this role combines strategic partnership with hands-on leadership, ensuring that people-practices support business growth, enhance leadership capability, and a strong organizational culture. This role has broad responsibility across learning and organization development, performance and OKR adoption, talent management, employee experience, and people systems and operations. The Director works closely with the business leaders to translate strategy into practical, scalable people solutions. Success in this role looks as follows, Leaders are better equipped to lead teams and drive performance. Learning and development initiatives show measurable impact. OKRs and performance processes are embedded and consistently applied. Payroll, compliance, and rewards are reliable, accurate, and trusted. The People and Culture team operates with clarity, confidence, and strong partnership with the business. Transition into this role, The Director will have one direct report initially, i.e. Manager – People & Culture who would be focused on Compensation and Benefits, Payroll, Compliance and Total Rewards Management. The Director will assume progressive leadership for further team members once the role and team are at a defined state of maturity. In the initial 2 quarters of probation, the role is expected to, Build a strong understanding of the organization’s culture, workflows, and leadership expectations while demonstrating credibility and impact. Lead high-priority initiatives across Learning and Development, OKR adoption, alike business priorities and enable leadership in decision-making. Take full ownership of critical foundational areas, including payroll, statutory compliance, and compensation and benefits administration. Drive enhancements to processes and automation, improving efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Roles and Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Leadership and Strategic Partnership Partner with the CPO to shape and execute the People & Culture strategy aligned with business priorities. Act as a thought partner to business leaders on organization design, leadership capability, and culture. Drive initiatives that reinforce organizational values, collaboration, alignment, performance and accountability. Lead engagement programs and feedback mechanisms, turning insights into actionable interventions. Lead the People and Culture team, providing guidance, coaching, and support. Maintain a hands-on approach while enabling the team to deliver effectively across L&D, rewards, compliance, culture initiatives, and process improvements. Learning & Organization Development (L&OD) Own the design and delivery of a comprehensive, progressive learning and development roadmap. Build leadership capability across levels through structured programs, coaching, and on-the-job learning. Drive organization development initiatives including succession planning, capability building, and change management. Measure learning effectiveness through clear outcomes and business impact. Self-drive leadership and manager development programs, workshops, and key learning interventions. Measure learning effectiveness, ensuring programs translate into tangible workforce improvements. Performance, OKRs & Talent Management Lead the adoption and maturity of OKRs and performance management practices across the organization. Strengthen talent review, succession planning, and internal mobility processes. Partner with leaders to build high-performing, accountable teams. Culture, Engagement & Employee Experience Provide leadership oversight for seamless management of compensation and benefits, payroll, statutory compliance, total rewards, and audits. Ensure strong governance, risk management, and operational discipline across people processes. Drive process improvement and automation to enhance efficiency and employee experience. Team Leadership & Capability Building Lead and develop the People & Culture team, providing clarity, direction, and coaching. Build a strong pipeline of people capability within the team. Prepare the People and Culture team for agility as the role and organization mature. Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning Drive a scalable hiring strategy that attracts talent aligned with our culture and values. Strengthen the end-to-end hiring process, optimizing time-to-hire and candidate quality. Collaborate on employer branding, ensuring we remain an employer of choice for value-driven professionals. Use data-driven hiring insights to continuously improve recruitment effectiveness. Strengthen self-service platforms, making learning and performance tracking seamless. Candidate Requirements: 14-18 years of relevant experience in HR / People and Culture. Proven hands-on experience in learning and development, compensation and benefits, payroll and statutory compliances, organizational development, and process improvement via automation. Experience in leveraging automation and analytics for talent and learning processes. Hands-on experience in using HRMS / HRIS systems. Proficiency in MS excel. Strong data-driven decision-making and stakeholder management skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency in English language both written and verbal. Strong business acumen and financial literacy. Ability to synthesize complex information into clear strategic recommendations. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels. Proven ability to drive cross-functional teams and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
