POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director, People and Culture plays an important role in building and supporting a people-focused, inclusive culture at Sunnybrook Foundation. As a trusted advisor to the leadership team, the Director helps shape strategies that connect our people and culture with the Foundation’s mission and goals. Working closely with teams across the organization, the Director leads with heart and values, creating a workplace where everyone feels supported, motivated, and empowered to do their best. They also lead a small but dedicated HR team, including an HR Manager and Senior HR Coordinator, focused on making a real difference for our people.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive people strategy that aligns with and supports the Foundation’s overall business strategy, ensuring that HR initiatives drive organizational success.
  • Provide oversight to the day-to-day HR operations to ensure smooth and efficient human resources support across the organization.
  • Oversee the full employee experience, from recruitment and onboarding to development, engagement, and retention, fostering a diverse, inclusive, and supportive workplace where everyone can thrive.
  • Develop and implement the HR Business Plan, including budgeting and progress tracking, to support the Foundation’s current needs and future growth.
  • Utilize HR data and insights to inform decision-making, optimize workforce planning, and enhance the delivery of HR services.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and coach to leaders and staff, supporting leadership development, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Manage daily HR functions, including hiring, onboarding, employee relations, compensation, performance management, and training programs.
  • Foster open communication and employee engagement to build trust and ensure alignment with the Foundation’s mission and values.
  • Champion equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives to embed these values into the Foundation’s culture and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulatory requirements while maintaining a positive and respectful work environment.
  • Lead succession planning and organizational design efforts to build a resilient and sustainable workforce.
  • Collaborate with hospital partners and other stakeholders to align HR strategies and maximize partnership opportunities.
  • Play an active leadership role in the President’s Anti-Racism Taskforce (PART) Committee and HR Subcommittee, contributing to meaningful systemic change.
  • Provide lead staff support to the Executive Committee of the Board, including preparation of agendas and meeting materials.
