OVERVIEW

Michael Garron Hospital is a large acute care, community hospital serving the Toronto East neighborhoods of East York, Thorncliff Park and Leaside. The Hospital is undergoing of a large scale redevelopment project which includes the addition of a new 550,000 sq. ft. patient care tower and significant renovations to the existing hospital. This position is reporting to the Vice President, , Planning andRedevelopment. The Director, Redevelopment Construction will be responsible for the following:

EDUCATION

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering, Architecture or related field required.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of ten (5-10) years recent relevant project management and construction experience in leading and implementing large-scale capital redevelopment projects, from design to implementation, within a hospital environment is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent relevant experience involving projects delivered under the province of Ontario’s AFP program through Infrastructure Ontario required.
  • Demonstrated experience with managing Design-Build construction contracts and Output Specification interpretation.
  • Demonstrated management experience in design, project management, renovation, and construction required; experience in a health care environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Health master planning, capital budgeting,facility designs and construction processes and familiarity with health care delivery systems required.
  • Results oriented and client focused. Able to effectively drive culture, fiscal control and develop self and others through coaching, mentoring and formal processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to write reports on the implementation of major construction projects along with detailed design and project specifications with multi-user groups required.
  • Proven track record as a highly regarded contributor within a management team, willing to provide additional time and effort to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex issues to all stakeholders is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with senior clinical engagement with the ability to persuade and influence in a healthcare setting required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to influence outcomes and to balance often-conflicting and competing interests with diverse stakeholders are required.
  • Self-directed, courageous and highly motivated with the ability to influence and achieve outcomes is required.

Responsibilities

GOVERNANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Vice President, Facilities, Planning, Redevelopment and Support Services in developing reports and presentations for Redevelopment Committee and the Integrated Capital Projects Committee for internal project oversight by MGH executive team.
  • Prepare presentations, briefing notes, analytics etc for topical issues as they arise to facilitate senior decision-making.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders at Ministry of Health and Infrastructure Ontario.

FINANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Together with the Vice President, Facilities, Planning, Redevelopment and Support Services, oversee the completion and financial management of $500M project budget with close working relationship with Financeteam.

PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct the administration of construction projects, and make arrangements with committees, architects, engineers and other consultants for architectural and engineering preparations required for new construction, operations, and major renovations to the MGH.
  • As required, assist the Chief, Redevelopment Planning and the Vice President, Planning andRedevelopment with design development from functional program to analyze needs, streamline operations, and envision new program concepts, to design development and completion, including interim transition plans.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Design Build Finance Project Agreement and Project Specific Output Specifications.
  • Lead the FFE team through procurement of furniture and equipment purchasing prior to

project completion.

  • As required, assist Operational Readiness in developing a comprehensive

decanting plan prior to Tower Interim Completion and transitions, to ensure major project

milestones are achieved.

  • Ensure effective project related communications are provided to internal and external

Stakeholders.

  • Overall management of small ($1M to $5M) capital Facility Renewal projects including

planning, budgeting, internal/external approvals, procurement, construction and

commissioning.

  • Ensure that all projects are established with a clear scope, schedule and budget prior to

c ommencing project implementation and planned in partnership with operational

stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with Facilities Management as required to assist with project planning and

execution.

  • As required, assist the Chief in providing strategic oversight related to developing an

    updated Master Plan for the organization and related Ministry of Health Capital Planning

  • Provide support to the Operational Readiness regarding transition to operations aspects of the

Redevelopment Project.
