JOB DESCRIPTION

Based in Vancouver the Director, Real Estate Debt Investments, will report to the Vice President, Canadian Real Estate Debt Investments and is responsible for playing an integral role in the marketing, due diligence and analysis of potential investment opportunities, structuring transactions, and monitoring existing portfolio investments. The Director is expected to play a key role in the investment activities of the department and works closely with the Real Estate Debt Investment teams in Toronto and Calgary.

EXPERIENCE

  • Education – Bachelor’s Degree required; preferably in Real Estate, Finance or a related discipline. CFA and / or MBA is preferred.
  • Experience – Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in the financial industry in an institutional environment, e.g. commercial mortgages, pension funds, life insurance and banking, with a solid understanding of the investment industry. Sound understanding of the commercial real estate and lending industry is preferred.
  • Analytical – Strong quantitative and analytical skills having constructed complex financial models in the past; detail-oriented and proficient in handling and analyzing complicated data sets. Able to grasp complex issues and the bigger picture and provide creative solutions to solve issues.
  • Relationship – Must demonstrate the ability to develop and sustain collaborative and effective working relationships with all personalities; ability to exercise discretion and strict confidentiality; ability to identify, anticipate and address stakeholders’ needs.
  • Communication – Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work, communicate and present effectively with a wide range of people, including senior management.
  • Organization – Must be able to take initiative and take the ownership to produce high quality work product with minimal supervision; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fluid and dynamic work environment dedicated to excellence; ability to prioritize multiple demands, plan and allocate time effectively, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines; flexible and adaptive to new ideas and constant changes; ability to produce accurate and reliable work product while also grasping the bigger picture; possess intellectual curiosity and a strong desire to learn and develop.
  • Software – Must have advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships with relevant third parties to originate mortgage investments and represent QuadReal and its clients in a positive manner.
  • Assist with the analysis and structuring of direct or fund investments including the entire due diligence process from start to end. Drive improvements in this process where merited.
  • Direct the due diligence of investment opportunities - evaluating past investment and/or financial performance, quality of management team, terms, documents, agreements and economic characteristics of investments.
  • Assist in preparation and presentation of investment opportunities to Management Investment Committee.
  • Conduct general mortgage industry and market research to support investments, including relevant deal terms and related legal documents.
  • Monitoring of existing investments and analyzes, reviews and assists in providing recommendations for existing investment documents and contracts.
  • Assist with the preparation of long-term portfolio strategies, ensuring adherence to lending standards and benchmark returns.
  • Establish effective working relationships with other QuadReal departments.
  • Actively adhere to compliance and risk management policies and participates in business continuity planning.
  • Provide on-going mentorship and support the professional development of junior team members, delegating tasks to stretch the development and enhance the skillset of junior team members.
