Join our Credit Risk Team in Japan, where we design and deliver forward-thinking credit risk strategies that fuel business growth and deliver exceptional customer outcomes — from acquisition through the full customer lifecycle. This position will lead the New Accounts Credit Risk Management team for International Card Services (ICS) Japan – a large, fast growing, and highly visible portfolio that offers consumer and commercial payment and lending solutions. The incumbent will be responsible for the following: Own full accountability of end-to-end New Accounts underwriting credit risk management for the consumer and commercial business Monitor economic performance across all risk decisions and partner with the Risk Centers of Excellence to identify improvement opportunities Identify and drive awareness of emerging issues; adapt strategies to changing macroeconomic conditions and portfolio credit trends Focus on continuous improvement of credit risk management capabilities. Optimize integration and usage of capabilities and data such as consumer and commercial credit bureaus, financial statements, and bank data. Continually explore and test new data sources to improve models and strategies Have a deep understanding of evolving regulatory environment with direct and indirect impact on the portfolio and risk management Ensure operational excellence and full compliance with applicable laws and regulations Serve as an advisor to internal business partners (Operations, Marketing, Product Management, and Finance teams) on matters pertaining to underwriting and credit risk strategy Lead a high-performing team of risk management professionals – provide both strategic and tactical direction; balance team priorities; create opportunities for continuous learning and development Qualifications Relationship building / Communication skills: Proven experience or ability to build relationships with external and internal partners, compliance, technology, legal, operations and risk management colleagues across multiple geographies in order to lead through influence Ability to influence outcomes/funding/focus/strategy for a business Clear, effective written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences Leadership/Organizational Awareness & Effectiveness: Proven ability to think and act at an enterprise level Self-motivated, results-driven, intellectually curious Proven ability to effectively lead and develop team with diverse backgrounds Proven ability to navigate and collaborate across different teams and organizations to get things done with a high sense of urgency Proven ability to assess internal/external factors and link together to develop appropriate business and risk management strategies and actions Proven ability to make quick but informed decisions without compromising quality Experience recruiting, coaching/mentoring, and leading diverse talent; and fostering an inclusive work environment Technical Skills and Experience: 5+ years’ in an analytical role with people leadership experience Rigorous, data-driven approach to analytically solving complex business problems Hands-on experience working with large datasets, and familiarity with Hive, Python, R, SAS, SQL, or similar programming languages Experience in using credit bureau, financial statement, bank statement data in credit assessment Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, Economics or similar quantitative field of study preferred Advanced degree in Business, Finance, Statistics, Economics or Mathematics or equivalent experience in similar business is preferred We back you with benefits that support your holistic well-being so you can be and deliver your best.
