Description
The Director of Safety & Security leads all efforts related to security, emergency preparedness, risk mitigation, and property protection for Aventura Mall, The Abbey, Town Center Aventura, Oleta, and Turnberry Corporate office. This role oversees internal security personnel, contracted security providers (AUS), and collaborates closely with local authorities (APD) to ensure a safe and secure environment for guests, tenants, and employees.   What You Do: (Duties/Responsibilities)   Leadership & Operations * Lead, coach, and develop the public safety team, fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and high performance. * Oversee contracted security partners (AUS), ensuring compliance with standards, policies, and service expectations. * Conduct performance reviews for direct supervisors and provide feedback to contracted provider leadership when appropriate. * Establish, maintain, and enforce all security department standards, procedures, scheduling, and daily assignments to ensure proper coverage. Safety, Security & Emergency Management * Implement and manage all public safety procedures, including fire prevention, emergency response, traffic control, CCTV operations, property patrols, and incident investigations. * Maintain and update the property’s Emergency Manual and ensure all teams are trained on emergency and crisis procedures (hurricanes, bomb threats, food safety incidents, etc.). * Inspect and maintain all security and emergency equipment; supervise contractors handling CCTV and related systems. * Conduct property-wide safety and security walkthroughs, ensuring hazards or deficiencies are promptly addressed in collaboration with Engineering and Housekeeping. Compliance, Reporting & Coordination * Maintain OSHA compliance across the property. * Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local safety regulations as well as corporate standards. * Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation in partnership with contracted service providers. * Serve as the liaison with police, fire, emergency responders, and local government agencies. * Oversee on‑duty and off‑duty police contracts to ensure adherence to policy and expectations. Guest Relations & Risk Management * Promote positive public relations with guests, tenants, and the community. * Respond to guest concerns and resolve issues with professionalism and urgency. * Manage lost and found procedures and systems. * Partner with insurance carriers on matters involving guest liability or workers’ compensation. * Provide calm, clear, and effective communication during emergencies, taking command where necessary. Financial Responsibilities * Prepare required reports and manage payroll for direct staff. * Review and monitor contracted security provider invoices for accuracy. Employees may be required to carry out other job-related tasks assigned by their supervisor or management.   What You Bring to the Table: (Requirements) * Bachelor’s degree preferred; or 2–4 years of relevant leadership experience, or an equivalent blend of education and experience. * Strong understanding of safety regulations, risk mitigation, and security best practices. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with guests, tenants, supervisors, and emergency personnel. * Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating procedures, and technical documentation. * Conflict resolution and multitasking skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure. * Proficiency with computers and security‑related systems (CCTV, reporting tools). * Ability to maintain professionalism, sound judgment, and confidentiality at all times.
