DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Engineering, Planning, Natural Resources or Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of Ten (10) years of progressive experience in functions related to program and project planning and development, policy and program development, and a minimum of four (4) years experience at a managerial level.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the negotiation and administration of federal agreements and funding arrangements to support strategic infrastructure investment.
  • Provide leadership and strategic advice for securing and managing multi-party funding for public infrastructure and research initiatives.
  • Direct federal engagement, project planning, environmental assessment, and permitting processes for transformative infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with Indigenous governments, stakeholders, GNWT departments, and the media to support project development and funding agreements.
  • Ensure smooth transition of approved projects to other GNWT divisions for procurement and project management during construction.
  • Represent the GNWT in federal negotiations and build strong relationships to advance territorial infrastructure priorities
