Through high‑impact programs, shared campus spaces, and collaborative partnerships, the department serves as a central hub for engagement—supporting student voice, campus traditions, and everyday connections that shape a dynamic and welcoming campus experience.  Position Summary The Director of Student Activities & Involvement provides strategic leadership for a comprehensive student engagement portfolio that enhances student learning, belonging, and campus life. The Director oversees major student involvement areas including large‑scale student events and traditions, registered student organizations, undergraduate and graduate student governments, and the DU Programming Board. Through intentional programming, advising, and collaboration, the Director advances the institution’s educational mission and fosters meaningful co‑curricular experiences that promote leadership development, civic engagement, and student success. Responsibilities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time.  Essential Functions Strategic Leadership & Departmental Oversight  * Provide vision, direction, and assessment for Student Activities & Involvement, aligning programs and initiatives with institutional goals, student learning outcomes, and inclusive engagement practices. Staff Leadership & Supervision  * Directly supervise the Assistant Director of Student Leadership & Organizations and Manager of Events & Traditions; oversee staffing models, performance management, professional development, and team culture. Student Organizations, Leadership & Governance  * Provide senior leadership oversight for registered student organizations, undergraduate and graduate student governments, and leadership development initiatives, ensuring effective advising, equitable access, and institutional alignment. Large-Scale Events, Traditions & Programming  * Oversee planning and execution of major campus events and traditions, including strategic leadership for the DU Programming Board; ensure high-quality student experiences, risk management, budget oversight, and cross-campus collaboration. Campus Partnerships, Advocacy & Operations  * Build and sustain campus partnerships; manage budgets, policies, compliance, and assessment efforts; advocate for student voice and belonging within institutional decision-making structures. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Knowledge of student development theory, student engagement best practices, and inclusive co‑curricular programming * Skill in strategic planning, assessment, budgeting, and large‑scale event management * Skill in supervising, developing, and leading professional staff and student leaders * Ability to advise and support student organizations, programming boards, and undergraduate and graduate student governments * Ability to build collaborative partnerships and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders * Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage risk, and balance student autonomy with institutional responsibility Required Qualifications * Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field. * Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in student affairs or student engagement. * Demonstrated experience supervising professional staff. * Proven ability to lead large‑scale student events, student organizations, and/or student government advising. * Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. * Commitment to student development. Preferred Qualifications * Experience working with both undergraduate and graduate student populations. * Experience advising programming boards and/or student governments. * Familiarity with assessment practices, learning outcomes, and engagement data. * Experience managing complex budgets and high‑visibility campus programs. Working Environment * Standard office environment. * Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high. * Noise level is quiet to moderate. Physical Activities * Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time. * Occasionally required to move about the office/campus. Work Schedule This position requires employees to work onsite 8:00am-4:30pm with occasional evening, weekends, and holiday shifts. (Schedules vary by department and position.) Staff are expected to support student Hallmark, Tradition and other program events throughout the year.
