____________________JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, the Director of Sustainability & ESG will be responsible for developing and executing the national strategy for Sustainability & ESG. This strategy will align with and contribute to the global enterprise strategy, aiming to enhance business performance, energize employees, support the McKesson brand, and bring positive societal value to McKesson Canada and its communities.
The Director will serve as an ambassador and subject matter expert for McKesson Canada on all Impact matters, including social innovation, community investment, and environmental sustainability.
They will work closely with the Global Impact Organization (GIO) to develop and execute sustainability and strategic community investment strategies, including managing flagship partnerships. The Director will also establish processes for data and content collection and validation for various stakeholders and lead key projects and programs in collaboration with teams across the national business and McKesson Corporation. They will oversee and liaise with McKesson Care Ambassadors across the business.
Additionally, the Director will lead cross-functional collaboration to identify ESG-related risks and opportunities, assess disclosure regulations in Canada, and support enterprise-level ESG reporting. They will head the Impact Council of McKesson Canada and report back on progress to the executive leadership team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in large organizations.
  • Proven success in developing sustainability and ESG strategies. Deep understanding of ESG frameworks including but not limited to ISSB and TCFD.
  • Experience in GHG inventory, understanding of GHG protocol, data management and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of evolving ESG regulatory environment Canada and the US.
Responsibilities

Impact & ESG Strategy Development

  • Lead the development and execution of McKesson Canada’s Impact and ESG strategies with respect to Environmental Sustainability, Community Investment and Social Innovation.
  • Establish data-driven Impact and ESG goals, milestones and metrics for McKesson Canada.
  • Lead Canadian involvement in developing and executing the McKesson enterprise-wide Sustainability & ESG strategy and action efforts.
  • Oversee the development, execution, and measurement of McKesson Canada’s strategic sustainability action plan and greenhouse gas roadmap actions to achieve Science-Based Targets.
  • Work with the Canadian Executive team to embed sustainability goals within their respective business long-term plans.
  • Regularly evaluate McKesson Canada’s current Sustainability & ESG initiatives, industry trends, evolving legal and regulatory requirements, best practices, and benchmarking, to assess risks and opportunities in ESG strategic approach.

Governance and collaboration

  • Lead and manage Canada-level ESG governance structure (Impact Council) and ensure alignment and integration with enterprise-level governance model.
  • Act as primary liaison with McKesson’s Global Impact Organization (Sustainability, Social Impact, McKesson Foundation), and serve as business leader for all environmental sustainability, community giving and social impact programs in Canada.
  • Provide strategic support to the Canadian executive leadership team when needed. Support the President and executive leadership team with presentations, talking points, and speeches for conferences, events, and other internal or external speaking opportunities.
  • Represent McKesson Canada at external industry associations, roundtables, and meetings related to ESG matters.
  • Collaborate closely with Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Canada on programming synergies and alignment of metrics and reporting processes under ESG/Impact strategy.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to develop custom social innovation partnerships with defined social and business outcomes that are mutually beneficial and deliver measurable value to the business.
  • Work collaboratively with leaders and stakeholders across the enterprise, including IT, Real Estate, Corporate Strategy, HR, Communications, Investor Relations, Legal, and various business unit stakeholders to translate ESG perspectives into business strategies.

Evaluation, measurement, reporting and disclosure

  • Act as the subject matter expert in sustainability & ESG reporting for McKesson Canada. Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive and inclusive strategy for ESG content gathering and disclosure within Canada, contributing to global enterprise requirements.
  • Lead and oversee the collection and curation of qualitative and quantitative data for sustainability & ESG reporting at the enterprise level, including annual report development, position statements, policy development and responses to external inquiries.
  • Stay informed about global sustainability & ESG frameworks, disclosure regulations, metrics, and KPIs. Engage with various stakeholders, including third-party auditors, to address increasing expectations and trends for data disclosure, tracking, reporting, and transparency.

Communications and engagement

  • In close partnership with the Communications team, lead the organization and execution of an enhanced approach to communicating sustainability and ESG across key stakeholder groups, including employees, customers, and partners.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage our programs to build external brand reputation in partnership with the Communications teams.
  • Provide a strategic communications perspective to ensure that our programs and partnerships succeed and thrive.
  • Evolve, adapt, and tailor enterprise community volunteering initiatives to reflect our Canadian context and reality, ensuring they appeal to our Canadian employee population.
  • Create and lead the execution of events to celebrate milestones and key awareness days and oversee suite of employee community engagement initiatives.

Strategic Community Giving

  • Own and manage all charitable and community relationships in Canada. Identify, research and screen strategic partnerships, negotiate contracts, and ensure execution of benefits, enhancing our company’s brand and reputation.
  • Develop long term trustful relationships with flagship community giving partners in collaboration with key internal business stakeholders to ensure our impact goes beyond the monetary value of our corporate donations.
  • Guide business-unit charitable donations and sponsorships to ensure compliance and alignment with policies and strategic community investment priorities.
  • Act as point of contact for all internal and external inquiries regarding charitable or community donations, sponsorships, and other requests.
