As a Director of Technology and Architecture, you’ll collaborate with researchers, academics and technology teams across the university to design, implement and maintain robust technical architecture that enables groundbreaking discoveries. You’ll be part of a dynamic leadership team within our Digital, Data and Technology Group, working at the forefront of enterprise architecture to support everything from high-performance computing to advanced data analytics platforms, enterprise applications, cloud and on-prem infrastructure.

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong technical and architectural knowledge with experience of developing and operating modern platforms and applications
  • Significant expertise in research computing environments and data management integration within complex enterprise settings
  • Outstanding leadership skills with proven ability to build, inspire and engage technical teams despite ambiguity and frequent change
  • Excellent communication skills able to translate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders from researchers to senior executives
  • Strategic vision with ability to set direction and deliver tactical outcomes at both organisational and team levels

You’ll have a degree in computer science, data science or related technical fields, with Chartered status in the IT/Engineering field or equivalent professional experience. With expertise in professional project management qualifications such as PRINCE2, you’ll bring knowledge of agile methodologies, enterprise architecture principles, and modern development practices.
Essential to your success will be excellent stakeholder relationship building across organisational boundaries, with experience leading complex technical projects and mentoring technical teams. You’ll have a curious analytical mindset with proven problem-solving skills and commitment to driving continuous improvements.
Experience in areas such as cloud technologies, data architecture, and research computing/high performance computing infrastructure would be particularly valuable.

Responsibilities

As part of our senior leadership team, you will:

  • Lead the development of comprehensive Technology Strategy aligned with the University’s Digital Strategy and strategic objectives
  • Drive technological innovation and data capability to support delivery of transformational projects across research and education
  • Provide strategic leadership for research computing services, including HPC, data storage, and scientific software support
  • Direct engineering teams to ensure University cloud and on-prem systems and data are performant, available, consistent, and integrated for optimal stakeholder efficiency
  • Establish architectural governance frameworks and technical design authority to ensure solutions deliver against University strategy and business needs
