SUMMARY:

We are looking for a contract (9-12 month) Director, Total Rewards to lead our Global Total Rewards (GTR) Business Partner (BP) team that supports many of our important businesses in Rakuten Internationally. In this role, you will collaborate with HR Business Partners and Business Leaders to help drive, align, and implement the Rakuten’s Total Rewards Framework. As well as being a key member of the GTR leadership team, you will also lead a team of 3 business partners in the US and UK.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and ensure stakeholder alignment in the “One Rakuten” vision of all Rakuten entities operating in the Rakuten International umbrella globally, such as Rakuten Rewards, Rakuten Advertising, Viber, Rakuten Kobo, Rakuten France, Rakuten TV, and Rakuten Viki.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership in the design, development, implementation, communication and administration of compensation and benefits programs throughout all countries where Rakuten International operates (including USA, Canada, EMEA, Australia, and Brazil).
  • Support the definition of global human resources parameters/procedures, oversee salary surveys, custom compensation studies, and pay structure development, actively working with the GTR Programs team and the General HR team in Japan.
  • Leverage work and collaborate with other global Rewards professionals to meet department objectives and deliverables.
  • Help develop and implement job profiles, core and Advanced Compensation Workday modules to manage all aspects of compensation review, administration of merit, bonus and stock option programs, working with the GTR Systems team and Global HRIS.
  • Collaborate with Global HRIS, Global Talent Management and other Centres of Excellence and Regional Project Managers on various initiatives
  • Develop, refine and optimize GTR processes and implement IHR platform solutions.
  • Anticipate pay issues associated with changes in organizational design or business strategy.
  • Support the expansion of Workday Advanced Compensation as directed by the regional projects.
  • Lead and support merger and acquisition integration activities related to compensation and benefits that impact the businesses you support.
  • Develop and implement Global Total Rewards Policy
  • Create EMEA response to pay transparency legislation and associated practice/policy
  • Work on other Global Total Rewards projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Manage the work of total rewards business partners who report to you.
  • Actively participate in GTR leadership meetings, helping to make decisions across GTR

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Finance, or related field
  • 10 years of work experience in Compensation, including experience leading a Total Rewards (Compensation and/or Benefits) team; being a business partner with HRBPs and contributing to global transformational change in Total Rewards philosophy
  • Ability to motivate and lead team across multiple timezones, coaching and enhancing abilities to build and maintain effective client relationships
  • Ability to create compelling business cases for business leaders to make sound decisions related to compensation & benefits activity
  • Strong analytical leadership skills with attention to detail; experience in leading people who manage data is required
  • Respond to client questions; provide input and guidance into equity programme direction
  • Ability to map processes, identify root cause; create and drive solutions
  • Ability to build productive relationships with C-level officers in business and HR; excellent interpersonal, consulting and communication skills to work collaboratively across teams and diverse cultures in a matrix organization
  • Experience with Workday Core Compensation and Advanced Compensation as well as Aon Radford and Mercer survey data is strongly desired
