Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for a Director, WL Waste Management & Spent Fuel. Can you see yourself overseeing the day-to-day direction and implementation of departments, maintaining an integrated relationship with CNL on corporate waste management initiatives, policies and/or procedures, and managing the prioritization of waste risk reduction? Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and delivering CNL’s Integrated Waste Strategy, implementing waste minimization and optimization strategies.
  • Managing and delivering a fully integrated waste service capability from waste generation planning, characterization, and certification through storage and disposal.
  • Reducing the overall potential for liability associated with violations of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and dangerous goods incidents.
  • Developing and implementing a database capable of collecting characterization data and applying radiological fingerprints to waste packages for the purpose of consignment.
  • Managing resource requirements, developing waste management schedules, milestones, and metrics, and applying fiscal and administrative policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Developing and maintaining effective waste forecasting, waste technical advice, waste inventory management and waste data tracking.
  • Managing and ensuring compliance with waste acceptance criteria at CNL and off-site facilities.
  • Executing “best practices” for waste management and TDG, focusing on operational excellence and technology/knowledge transfer.
  • Ensuring the effective implementation of regulatory, legal, codes, standards, and requirements applicable to the Waste Management (WM) and TDG program at CNL WL site.
  • Coaching, guiding, and facilitating site line managers in implementing the WM and TDG program procedures within their work practices.
  • Ensuring appropriate execution of the project and overseeing the management of contracts.
  • Overseeing staff responsible for the performance of the site-specific mission functions (i.e., Waste Characterization, Waste Transportation Services, Sample Management office, etc.)
  • Directing the personnel performing the mission functions and implementing project management, including responsibility for planning, controlling, and monitoring the execution of all project work.
  • Managing, budgeting, scheduling and scope responsibility for work ranging from $20M to $40M annually.
  • Strategically planning, maintaining, and governing waste management and spent fuel efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
