OPPORTUNITY

Pacific Community Resources Society is seeking an experienced and dedicated Disability Employment Counsellor to provide support to clients with significant challenges to employment from Intake to job sustainment, through case management services available at WorkBC. The Disability Employment Counselor is responsible for conducting intake assessments, disability related needs assessments, referrals to specialized assessments, providing one-to-one employment counselling sessions, developing an action plan with clients with significant disabilities and barriers resulting to employment. Furthermore, it is essential to build strong partnerships and collaborate with employers and community stakeholders to create suitable and sustainable employment opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree, certificate, or diploma relevant to providing client services to persons with disabilities.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in employment or vocational counselling.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with persons with disabilities to support employment outcomes.
  • Experience conducting Disability-Related Needs Assessments (DRENAs) or similar assessments and interpreting specialized or clinical assessments.
  • Experience supporting clients with complex barriers to employment and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology solutions for persons with disabilities.

Preferred Designations:

  • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP)
  • Registered Community Support Specialist (RCSS)
  • Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP)

Requirements:

  • Willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check and a vulnerable sector check by Ministry of Justice.
  • Strong computer and technical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Commitment to achieving program outcomes and adhering to PCRS policies.
Responsibilities

Client Intake and Assessments:

  • Conduct intake assessments to determine clients’ needs and career goals.
  • Assess each client’s skills, interests, employment history, and barriers through comprehensive needs assessments.

Employment Counselling and Support:

  • Perform 1-1 sessions through trauma informed and motivational interviewing strategies and practices
  • Develop individualized action plans with clients and revise them as needed to align with employment goals.
  • Provide job search assistance, including resume and cover letter preparation and interview coaching.

Referral Services and Barrier Identification:

  • Assess the need for additional support services and make appropriate referrals.
  • Connect clients with specialized assessments, assistive technologies, and support systems as required.
  • Provide information on appropriate community resources for clients’ access.

Job Development and Employer Engagement:

  • Identify suitable job opportunities and assist clients in accessing the hidden job market.
  • Build relationships with employers to generate employment leads and facilitate smooth job placements.

Administration and Documentation:

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining client record
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with organizational and Ministry policies and procedures.
