DESCRIPTION:

As a Disability Support Worker at Bamara, you will play a vital role in providing support to individuals under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Dubbo. This casual position within the Community Services department requires compassion, empathy, and a commitment to enhancing the lives of those with disabilities.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in providing support and care for individuals with disabilities (highly regarded).
  • Knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and its processes (highly regarded)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people with disabilities, their families, and support networks
  • Demonstrated understanding of person-centred approaches to disability support
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients
  • Capability to assist with daily living activities and personal care tasks
  • Understanding of safeguarding and promoting the rights of people with disabilities
  • Availability and willingness to work varying shifts including weekends, evenings, overnights, mornings and normal business hours.
  • Certification in First Aid
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle (preferred)
  • NDIS workers clearance
  • Working with Children’s clearance
  • Police check
Responsibilities
  • Providing direct support and assistance to individuals with disabilities according to their individualised NDIS plans.
  • Assisting clients with daily activities while promoting independence and community participation.
  • Supporting clients in developing life skills, including personal care, household tasks, and social interactions.
  • Implementing strategies to address challenging behaviours and promote positive outcomes for clients.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and reporting on client progress and any incidents or concerns.
  • Engaging with clients in a respectful and person-centred manner to understand their needs and preferences.
  • Delivering high-quality support services that align with the goals outlined in each client’s NDIS plan.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, families, and other service providers to ensure holistic care for clients.
  • Adhering to all relevant policies, procedures, and legislative requirements related to disability support services.
