Job Summary:

”The Disability Support Worker provides personalized care and support to adults with autism, helping them to achieve their personal goals, develop life skills, and foster independence. The worker creates a safe and supportive environment, promoting social interaction and engagement in community activities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Individualized Support:
- Assist clients in daily living activities, such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household management.
2. Social Skills Development:
- Facilitate social interactions and community involvement, encouraging clients to participate in group activities and events.
- Support clients in developing communication and social skills through structured activities.
3. Behavior Management:
- Monitor and manage challenging behaviors using positive reinforcement techniques and strategies tailored to individual needs.
- Maintain a calm and supportive environment, addressing any behavioral challenges with empathy and understanding.
4. Health and Safety:
- Ensure the health and safety of clients by following established protocols and guidelines.
- Administer medications and assist with medical needs as required, in accordance with care plans.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of client progress, incidents, and any changes in behavior or health.
- Communicate effectively with family members, healthcare providers, and other team members regarding client needs and progress.
6. Professional Development:
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay informed about best practices in autism support and care.
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as therapists and educators, to enhance support strategies.
