Description

Full job description

OAK Disability Supports is growing, and we are looking for compassionate, reliable and professional Disability Support Workers to join our casual team.

We provide person-centred support to people with disability in their homes and communities, with a strong focus on choice, independence, dignity and meaningful participation.

We are looking for Support Workers with a variety of backgrounds, skills and experience. The supports you provide will depend on your experience, qualifications, competencies and the individual needs of the participants you are matched with.

About the Role

As a Disability Support Worker with OAK, you will work directly with participants to support their individual goals, routines and day-to-day needs.

Depending on the participant and your experience, your shifts may include:

  • Community access, social outings and attending appointments
  • Companionship and social support
  • Domestic assistance, including cleaning and laundry
  • Grocery shopping, meal preparation and household organisation
  • Supporting participants to develop everyday living skills and independence
  • Assistance with daily routines and activities
  • Personal care, including showering, dressing, grooming and toileting where appropriately qualified and trained
  • Mobility and transfer assistance where appropriately trained
  • Medication prompting or basic assistance where permitted and trained
  • Transporting participants to appointments, activities and community locations
  • Supporting participants living in shared environments
  • Monitoring participant wellbeing and reporting changes or concerns
  • Completing accurate shift/progress notes and required documentation

All supports are delivered in accordance with the participant’s individual support plan, risk assessments, preferences and goals.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for people who are genuinely passionate about supporting people with disability and understand that great support is about working alongside participants, not simply doing things for them.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in disability, community, aged care or a similar support environment
  • A respectful, patient and person-centred approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliability, punctuality and a strong work ethic
  • Confidence working independently in participants’ homes and within the community
  • An understanding of professional boundaries, privacy and confidentiality
  • The ability to follow participant support plans, policies and procedures
  • Good observation, documentation and reporting skills
  • The ability to adapt your approach to different participants, personalities and support needs
