We’re seeking a reliable and capable Disability Support Worker to join our small team, supporting children and young adults living on the Capricorn Coast. At a client’s request, we are currently considering women only for this role.
We offer an above-Award casual weekday base rate of $47.54–$53.14 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, plus applicable penalty rates and allowances. We also provide paid training and opportunities to develop your skills.
Previous disability or other relevant experience is highly regarded, but it isn’t essential. We’re more interested in finding the right person and are happy to invest in the training and development of someone who is a good fit for our clients and our team.
We’re a family-operated provider and, while we’re growing, we want to stay small, local and personal. Genuine relationships and finding the right fit for our clients and their families are really important to us.
Being part of a small team also means you’ll know the people you’re working alongside and have direct access to management when you need support. Our management team is also directly involved in providing face-to-face support to our clients, so we understand the realities of the work and the challenges that can come with it. You won’t just be another name on a roster.
We’re currently working towards our NDIS registration, with the goal of making high intensity support and complex behavioural support a particular focus of our service. As we grow, there will be opportunities to learn, take on new types of support and build your skills through further training.
It also means we’re looking for someone adaptable who is comfortable learning new things and adjusting their approach as our clients’ needs and services evolve.
About the role
You’ll be supporting children and young adults with a range of needs. Depending on the client and shift, this may include:
You’ll need to be comfortable with hands-on personal care and be reasonably fit and physically capable of manual handling.
You’ll also need to understand that some days can be more challenging than others. It can be demanding work at times, but it’s also incredibly rewarding, with the opportunity to build genuine relationships and make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people you support.
You don’t need to already be trained in every aspect of complex care. If you’re the right fit, we’ll provide the required training and support you to build those skills.
Training and introductory shifts will commence in October, with regular shifts starting in November.
Current roster
The role currently offers approximately 20–30 regular rostered hours per week, with additional shifts frequently available, particularly during school holidays.
Our current regular roster needs from November are:
Weekdays:
Fortnightly weekends:
These are the hours we currently need covered and may change over time as our clients’ needs change.
We understand that people need holidays, get sick and have things come up. We’re simply looking for someone whose usual availability lines up well with these hours and who can provide good consistency for our clients and team.
Who we’re looking for
Someone who is:
Requirements
You’ll need to have, or be willing to obtain:
Previous experience in disability, youth, health, aged care or complex care is highly regarded, but not essential.
Pay & conditions
The casual weekday base rate for this role is $47.54–$53.14 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, plus applicable penalty rates and allowances under the SCHADS Award.
Required training is paid, and we’re happy to invest in further training and development as your role and our services grow.
We also pay for the work that happens around a support shift. Every shift includes an additional 15 minutes of paid admin time for completing shift notes, incident reports and other required documentation.
Some of our shifts require the support worker to start in Rockhampton before travelling to the Capricorn Coast with the client. Where this applies, an additional 30 minutes of paid travel time is included. Applicants will need to be comfortable travelling between Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast when required.
