Full job description
Become a Disability Support Worker at Open Futures Disability Services
Are you an experienced Support Worker looking for your next opportunity, or are you ready to start a rewarding career in disability care?
At Open Futures Disability Services, we believe great Support Workers are not defined by their resumes alone. We value people who are compassionate, communicate well, build genuine relationships, and have a desire to help others thrive.
Whether you have years of disability care experience or are looking to make a meaningful career change, we want to hear from you. With the right training and support, you can develop the skills and confidence to make a genuine difference in the lives of people with disability.
Why Your Skills Fit This Role
You do not need extensive disability experience to be a great Support Worker. We value both professional experience and transferable skills.
You may be a great fit if you are:
- A Relationship Builder: You naturally connect with people, listen well, and build trust over time.
- An Excellent Communicator: You communicate clearly, listen actively, and adapt your communication to different people's needs.
- Empathetic & Compassionate: You genuinely care about people's wellbeing and can understand different perspectives.
- A Natural Leader: You can remain calm, take initiative, guide situations, and encourage others to achieve their goals.
- Respectful & Patient: You understand that everyone deserves dignity, choice, independence, and the freedom to live life on their own terms.
- Curious & Willing to Learn: You are interested in understanding people, developing new skills, and learning how to support individuals with different needs.
What the Role Involves
With training and support from our team, you will assist participants to maintain their independence, build confidence, and achieve their individual goals.
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
- Support participants with daily living activities, household tasks, and meal preparation.
- Assist with personal care, including showering, dressing, and hygiene, while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Facilitate community access, helping participants attend appointments, social events, and recreational activities.
- Learn about and implement Positive Behaviour Support Plans to understand and support participants with complex needs.
- Write clear and accurate progress notes and communicate effectively with families and care teams.
- Encourage participants to make their own choices, develop independence, and participate in activities that are meaningful to them.
What We Offer You
- Flexible Shifts: Work available across days, evenings, active overnights, weekends, and public holidays to suit your lifestyle.
- Consistency: Where possible, we aim to pair you with the same participants so you can build genuine and trusted relationships.
- Supportive Leadership: Join a team culture built around communication, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Professional Growth: Develop specialised skills in complex care, behaviour support, and person-centred care.
- Training & Support: Whether you are experienced or new to the industry, we will support you to develop the skills needed to succeed in the role.
