General Support & Spinal Cord Injury Care

Brisbane & Gold Coast | Brightside Disability Support & Respite

About Brightside

At Brightside Disability Support & Respite, we support participants to live fulfilling lives through personalised care, meaningful activities and community connections. We focus on each person’s strengths, interests and goals, promoting independence, confidence and choice.

Our teams support participants across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, including people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a range of other disabilities, spinal cord injuries and complex physical support needs.

About the Role

We are seeking caring, reliable support workers to join our general disability support and spinal cord injury teams.

You may have experience supporting people with autism and behaviours of concern, or a background in spinal cord injury care and complex physical disabilities. We would particularly love to hear from applicants with spinal cord injury experience.

Your responsibilities will depend on the participants you support and your skills, training and assessed competencies. They may include:

  • Personal care: Assisting with showering, dressing, grooming, toileting and mealtime support.
  • Daily living: Supporting meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, shopping and everyday routines.
  • Community participation: Assisting participants to attend appointments, enjoy outings and build social connections.
  • Independence and skill development: Helping participants develop everyday skills and work towards their personal goals.
  • Mobility and transfers: Providing mobility assistance, including hoist use and transfers, in line with individual support plans.
  • Spinal cord injury care: Providing bowel care, catheter care, pressure care and positioning support within your training and assessed competency.
  • Behaviour support: Following individual behaviour support plans and using positive, respectful approaches.
  • Documentation: Completing accurate progress notes and reporting incidents, concerns or changes in support needs.

About You

You are compassionate, patient and dependable, with a commitment to helping participants feel comfortable, respected and in control of their support. You communicate clearly, build positive relationships and work collaboratively with participants, families and colleagues.

Experience in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded:

  • Autism and general disability support.
  • Supporting participants with complex needs and behaviours of concern.
  • Spinal cord injuries and complex physical disabilities.
  • Manual handling, hoist transfers and personal care.
  • Bowel care, catheter care and pressure injury prevention.

You do not need experience across every area. Please tell us about your strengths, interests and the types of support you have provided.

What You Will Need

  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (Yellow Card).
  • Current Blue Card / Working with Children Check for roles supporting children.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • A valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance.
  • Completion of required NDIS and onboarding training.
