Description COMPANY DESCRIPTION: Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. We are dedicated to serving men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and providing comprehensive emergency and long-term services to help them escape the dangerous streets of Skid Row. Established in 1891, URM is now one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. Join us at Union Rescue Mission as we bring hope and share the compassion of Christ to those devastated by homelessness. POSITION SUMMARY: The A.M./P.M. Dishwasher is responsible for cleaning dishes in a food service environment so that the kitchen has a steady supply of clean utensils, pots, pans, and sheet trays. Duties include prioritizing loads of several types of kitchenware, hand-washing dishes, loading the dishwasher, placing dishes to dry, taking the garbage and trash to the dumpster area, washing work areas, walls, and floor; ensures the proper storing of pots, pans, and utensils as well as assisting in other areas in the kitchen, as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Wash pots, pans, and utensils. Safely store all kitchen equipment in its designated place and keep the dish area clean. Assist in line serving. Assist the cooks with storing all leftovers properly while using the day dot system. The dishwasher will oversee the preparation of 100 sack lunches, daily. The Dishwasher will assure the proper closing of the dish machine and area. All dishwashers will keep the area free of any trash built up by emptying the trash, as needed. Assist or direct volunteers in washing dishes. Ability to place cases, pans & utensil on both low and high shelves. Ability to work in hot & damp environments. Noise levels are considered low to moderate. Requirements EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURES: High School Diploma, GED, or 3 years of equivalent work experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to solve practical problems and conduct responsibilities under general supervision. Ability to organize workload for effective implementation. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information on a one-on-one basis or in a small group setting. Strong customer service including quality and results oriented. Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures. Ability to be an effective team member. Ability to adapt as the external environment and organization evolves.
