Description

We are seeking a professional, enthusiastic and detail-oriented Dispatch & GPS Administrator to join our Hamilton, Ontario team at Sharp Bus Lines. This role plays a pivotal part in supporting our school bus drivers on the road, ensuring safe and efficient transportation for students. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, an eye for detail, and a passion for improving safety. Reporting to the division manager, you will be working in an office environment providing meticulous organization, strong time management skills and an acumen for customer service. The Dispatch environment can be fast paced and stressful at times. The successful candidate should be comfortable in these types of environments. Qualified candidates should have a strong understanding of key regions across Southern Ontario, as well as experience with the public and diverse groups.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience in dispatch, administrative support, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with GPS tracking systems and data analysis tools is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Intermediate to Advanced in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • An existing knowledge of key regions across Southern Ontario, including major urban centers and surrounding areas. Most specifically the Hamilton region and surrounding areas.
  • A commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to pass a Criminal Background Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • An Ontario G-Class licence with a willingness to upgrade to a B-Class licence through Sharp’s free training program.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED required, bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • Certifications: Additional training or certification in dispatch, logistics management, or GPS technology is a plus.
Responsibilities
  • Driver Support & Dispatch:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers during their routes, providing real-time support and assistance through radio communication.
  • Address and resolve any on-road issues or emergencies in coordination with relevant personnel.
  • Ensure drivers have the necessary information and support to complete their routes safely and on time.
  • Aid fellow dispatchers in the planned coverage of routes due to employee absence.
  • GPS Data Analysis:
  • Monitor and analyze GPS data to track vehicle locations, travel routes, monitor speed trends and overall performance.
  • Ensure GPS reporting adheres to company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Management and upkeep of route vehicle assignments monitoring unauthorized vehicle movements, excessive idling, speed or route deviations.
  • Review speeding reports and other safety-related data, providing feedback to drivers to reduce violations and infractions.
  • Conduct post-collision investigations using GPS data to identify areas for improvement and prevent future incidents.
  • Collaborate with the management, safety and operations teams to develop strategies for reducing speeding and enhancing driver performance.
  • Administrative Duties:
  • Perform light administrative tasks, including data entry, report generation, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of driver performance, route assignments, and incident reports.
  • Assist in coordinating training sessions or meetings with drivers to review safety practices and GPS analysis findings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
