A.M. Dispatcher Department: Operations  Union: AFSCME   General Summary  Under direct supervision, provides general supervision to coach operators in performance of daily responsibilities within assigned Division. Performs related clerical and data gathering responsibilities as required.  Duties and Responsibilities  * Communicates via 2-way radio communication system with fleet according to applicable governmental regulations and Authority policies to coordinate operator and equipment movement throughout the Division.  * Assures availability of Coach Operators to fulfill scheduled work assignments for day shift and prepares daily assignment records.  * Dispatches workers and equipment to rectify service disruptions due to equipment failure or accidents. Notifies all necessary parties and prepares reports and documentation required for emergencies or accidents.  * Receives reports of actual or anticipated disruptions and determines appropriate action to rectify condition.  * Assigns buses to scheduled runs.  * Prepares all related reports and forms such as pull-out sheets, drivers’ pay time, etc.  * Checks drivers’ uniforms and records driver mileage and non-platform time.  * Recommends disciplinary action as required.  * Performs other related duties as required.  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  * High school graduate or equivalent.  * Two years experience in scheduling, driving or customer service, or two years supervisory experience.  * Ability to exercise sound and quick judgment in solving problems.  * Basic mechanical aptitude is desirable.  * A valid Michigan Driver’s License is required.  * Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License with proper endorsements within thirty (30) days of appointment.  * Knowledge of basic geography of transit service area is required.   This position is safety-sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
