Description

Standard Truck & Crane Ltd. is looking for an experienced Dispatch Assistant with a strong work ethic who is willing to work out of a home based office. This position will require an individual who can be enthusiastic, organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, a team-player and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal instruction.
The right candidate must be able to work Full-Time Monday to Friday. Hours may vary.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Providing direct assistance to Dispatch as required
  • Responding to and monitoring daily driver tasks and client service requests via phone and email; this includes creating orders, assisting with creating schedules, routing, and keeping lines of communication open with customers, drivers, and management.
  • Must be able to assist with scheduling/securing loads as well as possess the ability to think pro-actively and adapt in order to avoid difficult situations.
  • Assisting with planning deliveries in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.
  • Using the company dispatch program to dispatch and bill loads.
  • Must understand all aspects of the company and maintain working relationships with clients and staff members.
  • Responsible for assisting dispatch operations by ensuring that vehicles and equipment meet safety standards as well as driver safety.
  • Completing various tasks such as data entry, filing, receiving phone calls, forwarding calls to the appropriate department, booking appointments, requesting permits/insurance.
  • Communicating/providing assistance to other departments as needed by management.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fluency in English (Written & Verbal)
  • A second language is an asset
  • A valid driver’s license and the use of a car
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship for employment visa status (i.e.: Individuals must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident)
  • Experience with customer service: 2+ years
  • Experience with over the phone communication: 2+ years
  • Ability to handle stressful situations is key

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Some Post-Secondary Education Preferred)

DISPATCH REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have at least 2 years experience as a trucking dispatch assistant
  • Prior experience in an operations center or logistics environment dealing with local delivery is an asset.
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel)
  • Experience with Sales
  • Knowledge of the Lower Mainland
  • Knowledge of Tractors/Trailers
  • Knowledge of Hiab Cranes is an asset
  • Ability to effectively manage time, multi-task, and prioritize in high stress situations
