Summary Performs a variety of assignments requiring a high degree of knowledge in the mechanical field. This is a full- time hourly position, reporting to the Distribution Supervisor in Boston, MA. This position is a member of the Bargaining Unit Member of the IUOE, Local 877. The hourly rate for this position is $57.80. Responsibilities All activities covered under Mechanic 3. Performs welding and burning operations. Performs Shop and Field repair of Carbon steel pipe in accordance with the requirements of ASME B31.1 code for pressure piping. Welding able to pass X-ray examination of welded joints. Ability to read and interpret blueprints (SR drawings) Thorough understanding of properties of steam. Ability to locate all system manholes & MLVS. Thorough understanding of the repair and principles of operation for: pumping devices, valves, PRVS, traps, piping systems, expansion joints, anchors. Must be proficient at pipefitting. Assist in training other Mechanic 2s and Welders. Assist others as required. All other related duties. Basic Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Requires MA Journeyman Pipe-fitter’s License. Preferred Qualifications Ability to obtain and maintain current welders’ qualification (WPQ). Other Qualifications Able to follow DOT regulations when required. Physical Requirements Must submit to company provided pre-employment physical exam and drug screen. Must possess a valid driver license in good standing in order to operate a company vehicle. Must have and maintain a driving record meeting the standards of the company. Required to wear a half face respirator or powered air respirators (PAPR) or proper safety procedures warrant use. Required to lift and / or operate machinery, tools, etc., weighing up to 50 pounds, unassisted. Required to work in confined spaces. Required climbing ladders, and / or stairs. Required to work in all adverse conditions, both indoors and outdoors all seasons. Required to work in hot areas.
