Description

At Associated Bank we strive to create an inclusive culture where different perspectives are valued and recognized as strengths critical to our success. If you thrive in an environment where your growth and development are encouraged and supported, then Associated Bank may be the right place for you.

ASSOCIATED BANK REQUIRES YOU TO DIRECTLY REPRESENT YOURSELF AND YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES DURING THE RECRUITING AND HIRING PROCESS.

Drive Credit Excellence. Lead with Insight. Grow with Us.
At Associated Bank, we’re proud to be a trusted partner for businesses across our communities. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a seasoned Senior Credit Officer to join our Commercial Banking team. This is your opportunity to step into a pivotal leadership role where your credit expertise, strategic insight, and mentorship will directly influence portfolio quality, risk management, and bottom-line results.

Responsibilities

As a key credit leader, you’ll be an integral part of a team of credit approval professionals and partner closely with line-of-business leaders. Your primary mission? Ensure that credit decisions align with our policies and risk appetite while supporting smart, strategic growth.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing credit team – Coach, train, and evaluate Regional Credit Officers and staff. Share your deep understanding of commercial, personal, and specialized lending to enhance team capabilities.
  • Evaluate and approve large, complex commercial credit requests – With delegated credit authority (up to $20M depending on credit type), ensure requests are sound, structured, and consistent with ASBC policies and profitability goals.
  • Be a strategic partner to the Commercial Lending teams – Add value beyond the approval process. Provide real-time structuring advice and policy guidance that empowers Relationship Managers to win business while managing risk.
  • Monitor and manage portfolio quality – Use systems and data to evaluate Asset Quality Ratings (AQR), review annual maturities, financial reporting, compliance, and exceptions.
  • Support portfolio strategy and performance – Collaborate on AQR forecasting, credit quality metrics, concentration limits, and risk-adjusted portfolio composition.
  • Coach and mentor front-line bankers – Be a resource for Portfolio Managers and Relationship Managers through ongoing credit discussions and hands-on learning opportunities.
  • Contribute to M&A and integration efforts – Play a role in due diligence and onboarding of new portfolios or acquired institutions.
  • Be a talent builder and people-first leader – Hire, onboard, and grow top talent. Provide transparent, constructive feedback and support professional development.
