Their role blends diving with hands-on construction skills. Core Responsibilities Underwater construction work: Assist in building structures such as piers, jetties, seawalls, and bridge foundations. Inspection: Check underwater parts of structures for damage, wear, or misalignment. Installation: Position and secure materials like concrete forms, steel beams, and pipelines. Repair and maintenance: Fix cracks, reinforce structures, or replace damaged components. Underwater welding and cutting: Join or remove metal parts using specialized tools. Rigging and lifting: Attach cables and guide cranes when heavy materials are lowered underwater. Survey support: Help engineers measure and map underwater sites before construction begins. Types of Diving Used Surface-supplied diving: Most common for construction work, with air supplied from the surface. Shallow air diving: For less complex or near-shore tasks. Saturation diving (less common): Used for deep, long-duration projects.
