Job Title: Divisional Design Manager
Location/ Division: Cannon Street Office / Fit Out Major Projects
Reports To: Divisional Director

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Recognised qualification in construction / architecture
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction process, preferably fit-out/refurbishment based.
  • Understands the pre-construction process. Can organise and manage the design phase of a project.
  • Industry experience. Track record of successful projects either internally or externally.
  • Has been involved at a senior level in medium (£20m+) and preferably at least one large (£50m+) project.
  • Able to collate information from their team to prepare and present to at a project level, business unit level and to the board as applicable.
  • Understanding of how to comply with a Health & Safety policy
  • Able to apply and operate a safe system of works
  • Good team leader and “people manager”.
  • Good delegator and manage the outcome of that delegation.
  • Training and mentoring of team members.
  • Has a good political awareness and is sensitive to political situations - good relationship builder.
  • Decision maker.
  • Good communicator.
  • Prepared to be innovative.
    A good organiser/system implementer

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

To provide a central strategic role which supports and manages the Design Management and Winning Work function for the business unit. The role requires a motivated, persuasive and creative individual who can actively contribute to the business unit’s business targets. It will also be to establish and understand the requirements of the function, sectors and markets.
The role will deliver industry leading innovation, capability, prequalification, tender submissions and post tender interview preparation resulting in the highest probability of to secure new work.
Tender periods can also vary, and it will be essential that the Divisional Design Manager be highly organised and self-motivating in order to lead our tendering operations on any number of opportunities.

WIDER BUSINESS UNIT ROLE

  • Remaining abreast of statutory & compliance requirements specific to the discipline
  • Maintain positive staff retention targets
  • Supporting Business unit’s business development strategy – attend and host events – BCO / FX etc.
  • Recruitment of new talent to the roles of Senior DM’s, DM’s, Ass SM’s and Graduates.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly Pre-con and Senior Leadership Team meetings
  • Lead and encourage continuous improvement
  • Contribute to annual business planning
  • Contribute to the business unit forums
  • Conduct HR responsibilities – PDR’s etc
  • Provide strategic advice into the design management role within the Business unit
  • Hold quarterly DM forums
  • Ensure Design Managers are reporting progress and risk monthly into the Senior Leadership Team. Manage risks accordingly.
