ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.

External Relations

  • Support maintaining public awareness of The Salvation Army values, mission, and actions.
  • Draft press releases as required for all major campaigns, special events, disaster responses and corporate partner deliverables for region/division
  • Draft speeches, news/media releases, brochures, audio-visuals, advertisements, reports, articles, newsletters, and websites for defined audiences for region/division
  • Draft and distribute of crisis communications, holding statements and related materials
  • Distribute up-to-date information to media outlets
  • Monitor and respond to active social media channels as well as traditional communication channels relating to the Ministry Unit
  • Maintain various distribution lists
  • Research and recommend new contacts for distribution lists
  • Respond to public requests for information

Communications

  • Provide support to communication management, provide updates, and ensure consistent messaging and accuracy for disaster responses.
  • Support messaging for all crisis communications from inception to final release and follow-up metrics/results
  • Provide editing for all communication materials including social media messages, and video captioning
  • Compile story content, mission impact and call to action and liaise with units and THQ for content, approvals, and delivery
  • Support strategic communication for earned media, positioning The Salvation Army as a knowledge leader and innovative partner, to further build sustainable partnerships

Events

  • Support the kettle campaign within the region/division
  • Support communications for events and kettles within the region/division, communicating opportunities, resources, and outcomes
  • Participate in and assist with coordination of community engagement events, fundraising and stewardship events that enhance event and brand awareness, acquires new attendees, donors, meets strategic objectives, and increases fundraising results
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
    Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college diploma program of 2 years in a related field.
  • Valid certification in First Aid/CPR and Non-violent crisis intervention training or willingness to take upon hiring.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Three years of frontline experience in fundraising, public relations, marketing, customer service, or related field.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Good networking skills.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Valid driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract is required; personal vehicle may be required for some roles.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Ability to work independently; maintain confidentiality; projecting a positive, professional and helpful attitude.
  • Communicate effectively, and exercise good interpersonal skills by displaying tact, courtesy and patience with clients, staff, and community partners.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Strong sense of integrity, professional ethics, and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $54,814.39 to $68,517.99 with a maximum of $82,221.59.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
