EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma, plus Accounting or Human Resources Diploma/Certificate.
  • Three to five years experience in related field preferred.
  • Other Canadian accredited post-secondary education, and/or past experience and training related to the role, may be considered when base requirements are not met.

SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Accurate keyboarding (minimum 50 wpm).
  • Highly organized; able to set deadlines, multi-task, problem solve, use time wisely to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Computer skills to work within district applications and district communication.

Responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

Payroll and Benefits Officers will report to the Accounting Supervisor. The officers will ensure timely and accurate payment, and communication of benefit coverage, of all Division staff in accordance with the Collective Agreements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Payroll
Maintain and update personnel and payroll records in accordance with all federal and provincial laws and regulations.
Prepare payrolls for all staff and submit source deductions to the Receiver General.
Prepare reports of Statistics Canada and the Receiver General.
Prepare Receiver General source deductions and other account reconciliations after each payroll. Process CUPE vacation entitlements and teacher pay-outs.
Preparation of Records of Employment and T4’s as per Federal Legislation.

Benefits

  • Orient new staff to the benefits program and ensure appropriate enrollment.
  • Respond to staff inquiries regarding benefits.
  • Input and update all benefits and deduction records for all active employees.
  • Prepare Benefits Payroll for all personnel on leave and for retirees.
  • Reconcile month end records or payroll deductions and benefits, and remit to governing agencies.
  • Provide assistance on Local Authorities Pension Plan, health benefits and insurance claims.
  • Coordinate the short term sick leave and Worker Compensation Benefits (WCB) coverage with the Long Term Disability Plan.
  • Provide information to staff on short term sick leave and LTD applications as required.
  • Reconcile taxable benefits accounts applicable to T4s.
