Description The Dockmaster is a front-line, member-facing position responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and daily oversight of the Club's waterfront, docks, and Club-owned fleet. Reporting to the Harbormaster and Facilities Director, this role supports all waterfront activities, adult and junior sailing programs, and ensures a safe, organized, and welcoming harbor environment. A friendly, professional demeanor is essential, as the Dockmaster interacts daily with members and serves as a primary point of contact for waterfront activities. Requirements Key Responsibilities Oversee dock and harbor operations with a focus on safety, organization, and member experience. Assist members with boat movements, docking, launching, hauling, and general waterfront needs. Enforce dock rules and safety policies clearly, calmly, and consistently. Maintain clean, orderly, and well-functioning docks, floats, and waterfront equipment. Oversee the maintenance, readiness, and repair of the Club-owned powerboat and sailboat fleet. Conduct regular vessel inspections and proactively identify maintenance or repair needs. Perform or coordinate basic engine work, rigging adjustments, fueling, and systems troubleshooting. Support adult and junior sailing programs, regattas, races, and special waterfront events. Assist with on-water supervision, rescues, towing, and safety response as needed. Supervise and mentor seasonal dock staff, promoting professionalism, seamanship, and safety awareness. Collaborate with the Harbormaster, Facilities team, Sailing staff, and other Club departments. Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Strong boating and seamanship experience required. Working knowledge of small boat engines, marine systems, and rigging. New Jersey Boating Safety Certificate required. Experience in waterfront, marina, or sailing program operations preferred. Ability to remain calm and decisive in changing weather and water conditions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a member-service mindset. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver’s license required. Physical & Schedule Requirements Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift and handle boating equipment and gear. Comfort working on docks, boats, and in/on the water. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during special events as required.
