Description

Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our universities community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en
We are inviting applications for a Doctoral Researcher position in the context of the HARECY consortium, a collaborative project between Dr. Eric Dufour’s group at Tampere University and Dr. Jaakko Pohjoismäki’s group at the University of Eastern Finland.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The project investigates how evolutionary divergence between two closely related hare species (Lepus timidus and Lepus europaeus) leads to differences in cell cycle dynamics and regulation at both physiological and molecular levels. The work integrates core molecular and cell biology methods with advanced live-cell confocal imaging, single-cell ATAC-seq, and nascent RNA transcriptomics. Research is carried out in Tampere under the daily supervision of a postdoctoral researcher, in close collaboration with the Joensuu team.
The project aims to uncover mechanisms linking life history strategies to cell cycle regulation. In addition to its relevance for species conservation, the project is expected to provide insights relevant to cancer biology and cellular senescence.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A completed Master’s degree (or equivalent) in molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field by the time of application
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology and cell culture
  • Familiarity with single-cell approaches is an asset but not required
  • Excellent written and spoken English, motivation for doctoral studies, and good interpersonal skills

The positions also require:

  • Ability to conduct systematic scientific research, an inquiring mind and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate clearly in a multidisciplinary and international environment but also work and think independently

Please note that before commencing the position, the selected candidate must be accepted to have study rights for the Doctoral Program at Tampere University, unless they already have one.
Tampere University is a unique, multidisciplinary, and boldly forward-looking, evolving community. Our values are openness, diversity, responsibility, courage, critical thinking, erudition, and learner-centeredness. We hope that you can embrace these values and promote them in your work.
