Description

Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) is looking for an experienced and motivated Domestic Services Operational Manager to lead our domestic and housekeeping team. This key leadership role ensures the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control, supporting a safe and hygienic hospital environment.
In this role, you will be part of the Operational Management Team, managing a team of circa 422 domestic staff across multiple healthcare sites. You will oversee the day-to-day management of staff, ensuring service delivery meets key performance indicators (KPIs) and budgetary targets. As the link between our frontline team and healthcare professionals, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

  • Oversee the delivery of domestic and housekeeping services across Gloucester Hospital Trust sites.
  • Ensure compliance with National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025 and infection prevention protocols.
  • Manage recruitment, training, and performance of domestic and housekeeping staff.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop action plans to improve service efficiency.
  • Collaborate with senior managers, ward staff, and infection control teams to maintain service excellence.
  • Monitor budgets and ensure cost-effective service delivery.
  • Lead on quality audits, reporting, and compliance monitoring to maintain high standards.

As Domestic Services Operational Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing and leading a large workforce, ensuring staff work effectively to provide a high-quality cleaning and housekeeping service.
  • Ensuring compliance with NHS cleaning standards, including auditing and monitoring performance.
  • Handling staff management responsibilities, including recruitment, induction, training, and performance monitoring.
  • Budget management, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Liaising with infection control teams to ensure timely decontamination cleaning and infection prevention measures.
  • Risk assessment and action planning to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring adherence to Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH, manual handling, and food hygiene.
  • Developing policies and procedures to maintain service excellence.
  • Representing GMS in national forums and specialist networks, contributing to best practices.
