Job Details Job Location: The Huntington Theatre Inc - Boston, MA Salary Range: $75000.00 - $90000.00 Salary/year Description Position: Donor Relations Officer Department: Development FT or PT: FT Classification: Annual Salaried ($75,000 - $90,000 annually) Schedule: Weekdays, some weeknights, & weekends Status: Exempt Reports To: Director of Development The Donor Relations Officer, a position created at this exciting time of transformation for The Huntington, is a vital member of the Development Team and the Major Gifts Group. The position will play an important role in broadening and deepening relationships with current and prospective individual and corporate donors for operations, special projects, and Phase II of the Campaign for the New Huntington. The Huntington is preparing for a campus expansion that will significantly increase the scope of arts programming. This role will be responsible for preparation and implementation of a plan to message this larger scope of cultural offerings, securing philanthropic support of the campus activation. Utilizing data research and analysis, execute a plan to substantially increase the number of new donors and implement practices that ensure renewal and upgrade of donors acquired year over year. The portfolio focuses on attracting new donors with the potential to grow into major supporters, implementing marketing and communications strategies to generate an understanding of the importance of and the need for philanthropic support. The Donor Relations Officer will work closely with and report to the Director of Development and collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to develop a compelling donor acquisition and upgrade strategy to support the necessary growth of contributed revenue. The Donor Relations Officer is an active front-line fundraiser who will meet regularly with donors and prospects 1:1 and will utilize opportunities at Huntington venues to create a welcoming presence for and actively connect with prospective and current donors, board members, key stakeholders and corporate sponsors. Collaborating with the Chief Marketing Officer and artistic and educational colleagues, board members, and senior management, the Donor Relations Officer will partner effectively across the organization to develop solicitation strategies to support the theatre’s mission and achieve ambitious operating, special projects, and campaign goals. Key Responsibilities: With a focus on acquisition of new donors, identify, cultivate, and solicit a portfolio of 200-250 individual donors and prospects Plan and execute effective donor acquisition campaigns to grow awareness, acquire new donors and raise funds Utilizing an entrepreneurial approach, plan and execute effective donor acquisition campaigns to secure, renew, and upgrade donors, and as an integral part of the development team, participate in increasing overall major gift support year over year Independently secure major gift contributions to ensure achieving or exceeding patron level and above support within the department’s current $6+ million goal, broadening support of four, five and six figure donors for general operating support, Phase II campaign gifts, and funding for special initiatives. Plan and implement innovative approaches to engaging prospective donors utilizing the scope of opportunities with existing Huntington activities and creating new engagement avenues. Develop and implement a strategic approach to engaging corporate sponsors and prospects; oversee the creation of compelling sponsorship collateral and benefits packages Build a corporate sponsorship pipeline through the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of corporate prospects Report on and measure progress, re-evaluating plans each quarter to ensure progress is tracking for success and meeting or exceeding budgeted goals, keeping the DOD and CDO apprised and informed regularly Track all donor interactions and research in Tessitura database Be a key member of the highly collaborative Development team and serve as a public facing representative at Huntington events and activities Be a significant presence at cultivation and stewardship events including opening nights, board meetings, and behind-the-scenes events, primarily held in the evenings and some weekends Greet donors in the theater before performances and in the “pop-up hospitality lounge” during intermissions at certain performances Qualifications Qualifications: 3+ years of demonstrated frontline, individual fundraising experience, preferably in the arts and culture field, with proven success closing major gifts ($1,000-$100,000) Confident Solicitor with a proven track record securing major gifts and stewarding donors with a respectful demeanor Proven success initiating, building, and sustaining relationships with high-net-worth individuals over time Excellent organizational, interpersonal, presenting, and networking skills with large and small groups and in 1:1 meetings; be an active listener with curiosity and genuine interest Proficient at data analysis and leveraging findings to develop donor acquisition and retention strategies and evaluate effectiveness of approaches Talented in written and oral communications, with an ability to write and speak in clear and compelling ways to articulate the goals, mission, vision, and values of The Huntington Possess a flexible and adaptable approach to be responsive to opportunities, strategy changes and innovative ideas Ability to take initiative, proactively managing multiple projects and priorities with concurrent and changing deadlines and work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team Possess diplomacy and discretion to foster trust and confidence of Board and staff leadership, donors, and other stakeholders, and maintain confidentiality Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint, as well as knowledge of research tools; Tessitura or similar relational database experience is preferred. Knowledge of the Boston Funding Community is strongly preferred, arts and culture focus is a plus Bachelor’s degree required
