JOB OVERVIEW: The DOT Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the company adheres to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and safety standards. This role focuses on maintaining compliance across driver qualification files, hours-of-service logs, vehicle maintenance records, and drug and alcohol testing requirements. The specialist serves as the subject matter expert on DOT regulations, providing guidance to leadership, drivers, and staff while monitoring company practices to minimize risk and maintain safety.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year of DOT experience required.
  • Knowledge of CFRs is preferred but not required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma required; college experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of all transportation regulations relating to the movement of hazardous materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
  • Experience in transportation compliance, fleet management, or safety coordination.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to conduct audits and prepare compliance reports.
  • Strong communication and training skills.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with all applicable DOT/FMCSA regulations.
  • Manage driver qualification files, including background checks, medical certifications, and license verifications.
  • Coordinate with new drivers to complete all onboarding paperwork.
  • Review and audit driver logs, hours of service, and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
  • Coordinate required drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ensure vehicle inspection, maintenance, and repair records are accurate and up to date.
  • Conduct internal audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Train and advise drivers and staff on DOT regulations and company policies.
  • Assist with incident investigations, reporting, and corrective action planning.
  • Stay current with changes in DOT/FMCSA rules and communicate updates across the organization.
  • Perform mock audits regularly to verify compliance
  • Assist with driver training and tracking of the training
  • Attend and set up company safety meetings.
