Description Position Summary: The Drafting Lead serves as the primary technical authority and people leader for the drafting teams across all CDI manufacturing facilities. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, accurate shop paperwork and drawings by overseeing the standardization of SolidWorks processes and design best practices. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled technical expert who excels at coaching geographically dispersed teams, fostering collaboration, and bridging the gap between concept and manufacturability. By establishing clear performance metrics and providing hands-on mentorship, the Drafting Lead ensures that our drafting operations are efficient, consistent, and fully aligned with CDI’s core values of FAST, FUN, EASY, COMMUNITY, and GROWTH. Directly manage, coach, and develop drafting teams at all CDI manufacturing facilities Serve as the primary leader and escalation point for all drafting-related questions, issues, and priorities Establish clear expectations, performance metrics, and accountability for drafters across plants Foster collaboration and consistency across geographically dispersed teams Oversee the use of SolidWorks and associated software to generate accurate shop paperwork, drawings, and work instructions Ensure compliance with CDI design standards, drafting best practices, and customer specifications Review complex or high-risk jobs to confirm accuracy and manufacturability Support new product development, design improvements, and special engineering requests Provide hands-on technical support and mentorship Requirements ??SolidWorks certification or equivalent hands-on experience (sheet metal, parts, and assemblies) Strong experience in CAD drafting: 2D drawings Solid modeling Assemblies and part drawings Detailing and dimensioning Solid understanding of mechanical drafting standards Ability to read, interpret, and generate 3D drawings Ability to create drawings from sketches and concept discussions Comfortable leading and communicating with teams across multiple locations Willing and able to travel regularly Additional Qualifications: Embraces and promotes CDI values – FAST, FUN, EASY, COMMUNITY, GROWTH Excellent communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work hands-on in a manufacturing environment Ability to influence without direct authority
