Position Summary About Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) Samsung Semiconductor India Research; Bangalore (SSIR) is largest overseas research & development centers for Samsung Semiconductor. SSIR is organized into verticals aligned with the business divisions of Samsung Semiconductor, which includes System LSI, Memory. Memory business is one of the flagship and most profitable businesses within Samsung Semiconductor. Memory business boasts of being the world first in many technology & product areas. The Memory division at SSIR (MST) is a key partner for Samsung Korea R&D and has critical responsibilities for many products being developed within Samsung Memory business. The MST Software team works on firmware development for Flash based products (Solid State Drives, UFS, eMMC, MicroSD) and Client Software to enable Samsung products in market. In addition, this team is also responsible for research on new storage technologies and bringing new concepts to memory products. Teams in India, Korea and US work together to achieve overall Memory business goals. We explore new technologies in a broad spectrum of areas ranging from emerging Non-Volatile Memory (Storage Class Memories), Low-Latency System designs, Interface protocols and standards, Device Drivers & OS components, Open Ecosystem & Platforms. Role and Responsibilities Roles and Responsibilities We are seeking a highly experienced Firmware Architect to join our dynamic team developing next-generation memory and storage solutions. This role requires an individual with a deep understanding of firmware and embedded software development for ARM-based multi-core and multi-processor memory or storage devices. Knowledge of CXL and DRAM is optional, but PCIe expertise is a significant advantage coupled with strong technical expertise in embedded systems. The Firmware Architect will play a pivotal role in shaping the architectural direction of firmware development, mentoring junior engineers, and fostering a collaborative development environment. Experience – {8 – 14 } years of experience Firmware Development Architectural Leadership: Lead the architecture and design of firmware for CXL-based memory devices and ensure alignment with hardware and software requirements. Firmware Development: Develop and validate high-performance firmware for FPGA/ASIC-based products. Ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability of the codebase. Mentorship & Collaboration: Mentor junior engineers, develop subject matter experts within the team, and foster technical excellence. Documentation & Standards: Create high-quality design documents, adhere to industry standards, and follow robust documentation practices. Cross-Team Interaction: Collaborate closely with hardware and software teams to align development efforts. Process Adherence: Champion software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including Agile methodologies, to deliver quality products on time. Debugging & Optimization: Utilize tools such as JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, and exercisers to debug and optimize firmware. Skills Required Essential: 8 –14 years of firmware development experience for CXL, PCIe, or storage/memory devices. Proficiency in C and C++ programming. Hands-on experience with FPGA/ASIC-based products. Expertise in any Embedded RTOS (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr). Strong knowledge of Operating system programming concepts. In-depth understanding of ARM architecture for embedded devices. Hands on experience in developing secure firmware/bootloaders for ARM or RISC-V based systems. Proficiency with debugging tools and techniques (e.g., JTAG, logic analyzers). Ability to comprehend and implement specifications, standards, and datasheets. Proven track record of architecting firmware with a modular design approach, leveraging abstraction layers to ensure scalability, maintainability, and reusability. Preferred: Knowledge of Linux Kernel internals/programming, memory management, NUMA subsystem, device drivers and interaction with ACPI/UEFI tables. Familiarity with DDR5/4 specifications and memory controllers. Understanding of PCIe & CXL protocols.
