KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:
· Undergraduate degree or CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) in Science, Engineering or Math
· Registered with APEGA or ASET
· Minimum 5 years of directly related drilling, down-hole tools, drill bits or rig-site experience
· In-depth knowledge of drill bits, downhole tools, application analysis and the drilling environment is essential
· Strong communication and negotiating skills; sales experience is an asset
· Presentation and public speaking skills
· Non-standard work hours may be required for rig/operational support when needed
· Robust knowledge of computer systems and application programs – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowePoint, Power BI, Tableau, Spotfire or data analytic systems
· Ability to solve problems with limited resources, information and time
· Participate in development programs to learn new skills and stay abreast of new technology and innovations
· Comply with Ulterra’s health and safety policies
· Adhere to a professional and ethical manner of business at all times
· Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to work within Canada
The Applications Engineer position combines responsibilities stemming from three core functions:
Drilling Application Analysis
· Data collection, analysis and knowledge management
· Interpretation and understanding of down hole drilling information, well profiles, lithology, and how it relates to directional control, BHA limitations, bit design and drilling performance
· Providing a high level of service to our customers with regards to optimizing drilling
· Maintain a high level of technical knowledge to service the customer in a professional manner
· Provide detailed analysis for optimization of drilling performance in critical or strategic applications
Product Development
· Use deductive reasoning, product knowledge and engineering principles to develop and optimize product designs
· Continually evaluate products, components and materials
· Provide measurable and benchmark performance analysis
· Apply critical thinking and adaptive solutions to both unique and mundane challenges
· Communicate new product expectations to sales force and/or customers
· Make applications specific recommendations for product standardization or obsolescence
Technical Sales Support
· Identify new business opportunities through the understanding and application of product knowledge
· Provide technical applications support to the sales team, through customer meetings and presentations
· Work with the sales team and customers to improve performance or resolve reliability issues
· Conduct and participate in providing training, both internal and external
