Title/Location – Drilling Engineer – Austin, TX (in-office) Summary: In this role, the Drilling Engineer will play a pivotal role in optimizing drilling operations across various basins. Additionally, leverage your extensive knowledge and experience to design, plan, and execute drilling programs while ensuring safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of Formentera Operations. Responsibilities: * Develop, plan, and oversee vertical and horizontal drilling programs across multiple basins.  Core engineering work to include, but not limited to, casing design, wellhead systems, directional planning, drilling fluid systems, and cement design.  * Utilize broad knowledge of drilling techniques, technologies, and equipment to optimize drilling processes and enhance performance. * Ensure all drilling operations adhere to strict safety standards and environmental regulations, implementing best practices to mitigate risks. * Monitor and manage drilling budgets, identify cost-saving opportunities, and write AFEs. * Analyze drilling data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement, making data-driven decisions to enhance drilling performance. * Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including geologists, reservoir, production, land, regulatory, and field operations personnel, to achieve drilling goals and milestones. * Evaluate vendor performance, stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive continuous improvement in drilling operations. * Maintain accurate records, prepare technical reports, and present findings. Key Competencies: * Candidates should have strong technical communication skills. * Ability to work independently to perform specific drilling tasks. * Work on cross-functional technical teams. * Interface with non-technical staff in a team setting; multi-disciplinary teamwork and communication is essential. Required Qualifications: * 5+ years of recent experience as a Drilling Engineer with a track record of working in multiple basins. * Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Petroleum, or related engineering field). * Proficiency in drilling software and tools including, but not limited to, Wellview, Compass / Wellplan (or equivalent), wellbore stability analysis, fluid hydraulics. * Strong understanding of drilling practices, equipment, and regulatory requirements. * Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure. * Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. * Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and ethical conduct. * Well Control Certification (Drilling Surface - Supervisor Level). Preferred Qualifications: * Ability and willingness to travel to field locations in the U.S. for a cumulative 30-60 days per year. * Practical knowledge of other field operations (production and facilities design); hands-on completions experience in a dedicated completions role is a plus * 5-10 years of experience at an active E&P company, with preference for candidates currently active in the field * Practical understanding of petroleum economics with ability to contribute to Asset/Deal valuation process. Physical Requirements: * Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping. * Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. * Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
