Description The Driver Associate position is categorized as a Seasonal, hourly, non-exempt position. Scheduled days within the department vary based on department needs. Flexibility on weekends is required during the months of April through September. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, EXPECTATIONS OF STAFF & WORK ENVIRONMENT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES o Assist with packing and safe handling of guest purchases while preparing for scheduled deliveries. o Loads/unloads materials and supplies (requires lifting in excess of 50 lbs. or more) into van/trucks. o Completes delivery paperwork in its entirety; to include the safety inspection of vehicle, logging of departure and arrival times, and fuel fill-ups as needed. o Route daily deliveries. Maintain awareness of timing on upcoming deliveries and prepping orders and preparing schedules in advance. o Follow Supervisors detailed instructions and ask questions if the instructions are the least bit unclear. o Call guest with window of opportunity of expected time of arrival (either day before or day of delivery) and once again, call guest while in route to the delivery location. o Immediately contact Supervisor well in advance of any known issues or mishaps which may have occurred or potentially could be a problem. o Always available via company phone when on deliveries, but not while operating vehicle. o Driver must always have their license in their possession when driving. o If ever using personal vehicle for business purposes, must maintain current insurance for their vehicle and immediately report to Human Resources any change, lapse or loss of coverage in insurance prior to performing job duties which includes driving a vehicle. o Employee will inspect any vehicle used for safety concerns prior to departure or use for official and approved business. o All vehicles used for official business must be reasonably maintained and in compliance with all state and federal safety standards. If a vehicle does not meet safety standards, the employee must immediately report all mechanical problems to their Supervisor and/or Management. o Ensure company vehicles are kept clean and free of debris. On a daily basis, dispose of all trash, dust interior, clean windows, sweep vans and box truck floors. Wash exterior of vehicles as needed. o Drivers must know and follow all motor vehicle laws and regulations including, but not limited to: laws prohibiting the use and/or being under the influence of intoxicating substances and laws prohibiting texting while driving the vehicle. No additional passengers (except fellow employees or approved individuals assigned to assist the driver) are permitted in any company vehicle or private vehicle while it is being used for approved business. o All Drivers must be approved Designated Drivers. HR will assist in this process. o All employees and passengers must wear seat belts while the vehicle is in motion. Employees must IMMEDIATELY report any and all motor vehicle incidents which results in ANY type of damage, injury, or citation to their Supervisor, HR, and Management. o Employee is SOLELY responsible for all traffic and parking violations they receive when driving both their own vehicles or using company vehicles. GUEST SERVICE o Provides exceptional customer service to Retail Garden Center customers. o Develops familiarity with department products in order to adequately assist guests. o Maintains clean, organized and safe work environment. o Uphold standards for a strong company image that invites guests to repeat their business. COMMUNICATION All employees always treat guests and co-workers with friendliness, respect and professionalism. Answer guests’ questions and get dept. Supervisor if answer doesn’t’ resolve the issue. CLEANING AND SAFETY ADHERENCE Recognize and resolve any hazards which may cause a safety issue (wet floors, products in walking paths, etc.). Know the location of SDS and SARA information and understand and follow the instructions. Adhere to all safety rules, regulations, and understand the Hazardous Communication Program. WORKING CONDITIONS o Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. o Exposure to outdoor weather conditions varies; to include inclement weather (rain, snow, heat or cold). o The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS o Must be at least 21 years of age and eligible to work in the United States. o Current, valid driver’s license with a good driving history. o High School graduate, GED, or equivalent education is required. o Previous experience working in a retail setting is preferred; but not required. o Previous experience driving a 16 foot box truck is strongly preferred; but not required. o Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. o Ability to work with various departments and foster teamwork. o Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. o Interpret both verbal and written forms of communication in English; and communicate in a positive, professional, and timely manner. o Maintain a positive and professional work atmosphere while dealing with customers/guests, managers, co-workers, and staff in a respectful and timely manner. PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS o Previous experience working in a retail setting o Previous experience driving a 16 foot box truck All positions within Tagawa Gardens require assisting other departments during critical times in the peak season, to include lifting and carrying heavy materials throughout the day. This position requires that you can regularly lift and/or move up to 60lbs to the waist and carry it 10 ft. with or without reasonable accommodation.
