Description
Description This position is located in the Department of Public Works and is directly supervised by the Foreman, with final supervision by the Director of Public Works. The function of the Driver/Laborer is to perform the described duties. The incumbent is responsible for insuring public safety, in all areas of Public Works. All duties are performed in accordance with Borough policies and guidelines. Any problems or questions that may arise are directed to the incumbent's Foreman. Duties Operate all Borough vehicles with the exception of those specifically assigned to Driver/Operator, and any equipment needed to complete an assigned Job. Perform any Public Works related tasks assigned by the incumbent 's Foreman, including such tasks as: grass cutting, leaf collection, park and utilities maintenance, street repairs and various street related maintenance, and snow and ice removal. Inspect all assigned vehicles daily and report any problems to Foreman. Deliver all maintenance materials and other supplies to a Job site. Clean and/or restore any used tools after use. Complete any equipment operation reports required by Director of Public Works. For these routine duties the incumbent will be made aware of all deadlines and the normal order they should be completed. In addition to the described tasks, the incumbent must fill in for any absent employee of Public Works, and complete that assigned work to the best of their ability. Requirements Requirements This position requires a substantial knowledge of the operation of various hand tools and machinery, as well as the ability to safely operate all Borough vehicles. The incumbent must have the ability to learn any newly assigned tasks. The incumbent must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License and have a minimum of two years experience in the proficient operation of construction vehicles. Essential Functions The incumbent must be physically able to lift and handle 60 lb. containers repetitively over the course of the work shift. The incumbent must be physically able to complete all of the five-mile daily trash collection route over the course of the work shift with a combination of walking and driving. The incumbent must be physically able to drive and operate a Borough truck for an extended period of time. The incumbent must be physically fit and mobile to operate all tools and equipment of the Department of Public Works. The incumbent must be physically able to understand and follow specific written and verbal instructions. The incumbent must be physically able to understand and interpret shop drawings and prints.
Responsibilities
The Driver/Laborer is responsible for operating Borough vehicles and performing various Public Works tasks such as maintenance, repairs, and snow removal. They must ensure public safety and report any issues to their Foreman.
