JOB TITLE  Driver/ Mechanic  REPORTING TO Supply chain officer  GRADE Grade 5  REPORTING TO POSITION:  None LOCATION Kapoeta East TEAM/PROGRAMME:  Logistic CONTRACT LENGTH:  9 months  CHILD SAFEGUARDING Level 3.  The responsibilities of this post may require the post holder to have regular contact with children and young people. In the overseas context, all posts are considered level 3.   As part of these responsibilities the post hold will support the establishment of child safeguarding systems, promote a culture of keeping children safe, and ensure that potential harm to children (by our own staff and/or as a result of how we do our work) is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis. Report and respond to interventions determined by your position and responsibilities identified in the Child Safeguarding Policy. ROLE * The Driver/ Mechanic is to provide transport service to SC staff, visitors and other guests as per instructions and to ensure that SC vehicle policy is strictly adhered to in vehicle management.   * He must be responsible to avail the vehicles spare parts to ensure that there is an uninterrupted supply of Spare parts while keeping SCI fleet running.  MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES * The Driver/Mechanic will provide transport service to SC staff, visitors and other guests as per instructions. * Ensure that SC vehicle policy is strictly adhered to in vehicle management and always ensure the cleanliness of vehicle. * Keep assigned vehicle clean and ensure that it is properly handled, always kept in good condition and usable. * Implement daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle maintenance checks and work alongside fleet or supply chain officer to have all vehicles maintained in a safe working condition * Ensure that the vehicle has enough fuel before embarking in transport service or heading for a field trip. * Monitor that the fuel consumption has remained within the litre/km rate estimate for the vehicle and report any irregularities. * Keep correct/proper and neatly recorded vehicle log sheets and submit to the supervisor on monthly basis for review, checking and feedback. * Ensure that vehicle is used for the intended/assigned purpose in accordance with the prior authorisation given by the supervisor. * Ensure that the vehicle safety belt is functional and always used by self and the passengers on board.   * Follow all SC SSO driving safety regulations while driving and observe all traffic rules. * Report in writing on any maintenance need (minor/major) to the supervisor timely and accurately. * Report any accident immediately to the supervisor or team leader as appropriate. * Ensure that the car is always equipped with First Aid kit * Follow-up vehicle related issues with the police and insurance companies as per instructions * Assist supply chain in Local Purchases * Assist in Loading of Cargo where deem necessary. * Driver/ Mechanic will determine all Fleet condition in Kapoeta East (Narus) office by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, along with identifying worn and damaged parts needing repair or replacement. * Requests parts or materials as needed for repairs or servicing for all Fleet in the base. * Perform weekly and monthly checks of all fleet and all checks reports should be documented. * The incumbent will have to perform Service A & B for all available fleet. * The Driver/ Mechanic will perform service and maintenance of the generators in Tonj office also including motorcycles and engine system diagnostic.  * Provide guidance and feedback to all vehicles, motorcycles & generator operators regarding the condition of the vehicles/ motorcycles/ Generator. * Provides advice to the Field Manager and Supply Chain Officer regarding maintenance issues. * Oversees work undertaken by 3rd party maintenance providers for example ensuring that spare parts are genuine, and that work is done to a high standard. * Familiarizes him/herself with the contents of each Fleet manual, read and comprehend technical manuals and schematics or other related instructional materials necessary to make repairs that comply with technical specifications. * Driver/ Mechanic will update fleet inspection reports and maintenance records. * Ensure compliance with federal and state vehicle repair requirements. * He or she will also perform test drive/ridding in line with the existing Save the Children driver policy. * Safely uses of all vehicles tools and equipment related and provided to office and will be responsible for any loss & damage to the tools. * Encourage health and safety practices including the wearing of overalls, safety goggles and having fire extinguishers and First Aid Kit.  * Practices safe operation procedures and always complies with safety requirements. * Maintains technical skills by periodically up-grading knowledge and attending required training. * Completes accurately and comprehensively all documentation associated with the fleet and its maintenance classes to meet changing technology. * Assume other relevant responsibilities as instructed by supervisor CORE BEHAVIOURS. WORKING CONDITIONS Save the Children places the highest priority on the safety and security of its personnel and will take all the necessary measures to ensure that risks are reduced to the minimum. All staff will receive pre-departure briefing. Save the Children will ensure the health and welfare of staff in South Sudan through linkages with pre-identified health providers.
