Description This position is located in the Department of Public Works and is directly supervised by the incumbent’s Foreman with final supervision by the Director of Public Works. The function of the Driver/Operator is to perform the described duties, as well the incumbent must perform any Public Works related tasks assigned by the Foreman or the Director. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring public safety, in all areas of Public Works. All duties are performed in accordance with Borough policies and guidelines. Any problems or questions that may arise are directed to the Foreman. Operate safely and proficiently any piece of Borough equipment or truck, including any or more of the following, trash truck, dump truck, street sweeper, backhoe, sewer Jet, and/or landscaping equipment. Check and inspect all equipment prior to use and report any damage or malfunction to Foreman. Prepare all necessary equipment reports immediately following their use. Perform and fulfill the duties of the Driver/Laborer when there is no operating scheduled. For these routine duties, the incumbent will be made aware of all deadlines and the normal order in which they should be completed. Requirements Requirements This position requires a substantial knowledge of the operation of all Public Works machinery. The incumbent must be able to safely drive and/or operate all Borough equipment. The incumbent must be a high school graduate. The incumbent must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License and have a minimum of two years experience in the proficient operation of construction equipment. Essential Functions The incumbent must be physically able to lift and handle 60 lb containers repetitively over the course of the work shift. The incumbent must be physically able to complete all of the five-mile daily trash route over the course of the work shift with a combination of walking and driving. The incumbent must be physically able to drive and operate a Borough truck for an extended period of time. The incumbent must be physically fit and mobile to operate all tools and equipment of the Department of Public Works. The incumbent must be physically able to understand and follow specific written and verbal instructions. The incumbent must be physically able to understand and interpret shop drawings and prints.
Responsibilities
The Driver/Operator performs assigned Public Works tasks, ensuring public safety while operating and inspecting various Borough equipment such as trash trucks, dump trucks, and backhoes. This role also requires fulfilling Driver/Laborer duties when operating schedules are not active.
