Description The Driver, Shuttle is responsible for safely transporting tractors and trailers between company terminals, customer locations, yards, and maintenance facilities. This local position does not require over-the-road travel and is ideal for experienced drivers seeking consistent home time. The Shuttle Driver plays a vital role in supporting fleet movement, equipment availability, and operational efficiency. Summary of Essential Job Functions Equipment Movement Shuttle empty and loaded trailers between yards, terminals, maintenance shops, and customer facilities. Ensure proper trailer placement based on dispatch or yard instructions. Perform drop-and-hook operations and trailer swaps as directed. Safety & Compliance Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT regulations. Ensure safe handling of equipment and follow all company safety policies. Report any equipment issues or incidents immediately to the dispatcher or terminal manager. Communication & Coordination Maintain communication with dispatch for instructions, trailer assignments, and schedule updates. Complete required paperwork or digital logs accurately and timely. Coordinate with shop and yard personnel for smooth trailer transitions. Efficiency & Equipment Readiness Assist with staging equipment to support on-time dispatch and terminal flow. Monitor and report delays or operational issues to minimize service disruptions. May assist in moving equipment for fueling, inspections, or wash as needed. Other Duties Perform light yard work or trailer spotting when requested. Support special projects or terminal operations based on daily needs. Completes documentation accurately and thoroughly. Communication & Teamwork Maintains clear communication with dispatchers, shop staff, and yard personnel. Works collaboratively to ensure smooth terminal and fleet operations. Adaptability Responds flexibly to changes in schedule, weather, or trailer availability. Supports various shuttle or yard tasks as operational needs arise. Requirements Required Skills and Qualifications Minimum of 1 year of verifiable Class A CDL tractor-trailer driving experience. Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record. Knowledge of DOT safety regulations and proper trailer handling procedures. Ability to conduct thorough equipment inspections and complete trip reports. Strong communication skills and punctuality. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work in various weather conditions and navigate yard environments safely.
