Job Description:
Position Purpose
In a friendly and respectful manner, the driver will be responsible to do pick-ups and deliveries for the St. John’s Housing & Community Services by exercising safe and careful driving and material handling procedures
Key Responsibilities
- operates the department van for pick-ups and deliveries ensuring the safe and careful handling of all deliveries and transported items while protecting property and vehicles
- loads and unloads goods at the st. john’s Housing & community services and other community and salvation army locations
- maintains a record of all daily pick-ups and deliveries
- maintains knowledge of legislative and company policies such as health & safety regulations, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts
- maintains and takes responsibility for daily and overall safety, maintenance, operation of vehicle and records of such
- maintains general cleanliness and organizes contents of the department van
- performs circle checks and regular maintenance checks on department van
- maintains orderliness and cleanliness in the food room
- assists in community food bank as directed by supervisor
- provides daily reports of daily activities to the Director of operations
- provides the salvation army with a positive visibility within the community; provides members of the community and donors with courteous and respectful service
- performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications and Education requirements
- Completion of High School plus relevant specialized courses would be an asset
- One year but less than three years of prior driving experience
- Possess a valid driver’s license and provide a current Driver’s Abstract
- Have delivery experience
- Have knowledge of St. John’s and Mount Pearl region roadways
- Have the ability to concentrate while driving through traffic and be willing to abide by all traffic laws while driving
- Be able to work in a Christian faith-based setting and have the ability to uphold the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army and represent and provide The Salvation Army with a positive visibility within the community
- Possess a genuine concern for the marginalized of society
- Possess communication and interpersonal skills
- Be able to lift and carry heavy objects 30-50 lbs.
- Be able and willing to work flexible hours
- Have experience in and a willingness to work as a team member
- Have ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Be able and willing to take directions
- Have a willingness and ability to work under stressful circumstances
- Wear safety shoes (steel toed) when required
- Wear gloves, back brace and other safety equipment when deemed appropriate
- Be willing to wear clothing with some type of Salvation Army identification
- Have the ability to maintain confidentiality and be willing to sign a Confidentiality Statement
- Obtain clearance through The Salvation Army’s Internal Abuse Registry and obtain a Criminal Police/Vulnerable Sector Check
This is a temporary position with a posibility of extension.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $18.05 to $22.56 with a maximum of $27.07.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
